Google Maps is an ad platform. It exists to connect people with businesses, not to help them enjoy the places they live.
OpenStreetMap, on the other hand, is community-driven. Most contributors are local, and their priorities are different from those of corporate interests. Mappers often map public spaces in great detail, providing huge value to non-drivers.
I recently found out that Street Complete let’s you download data and use it offline when you’re out and about and I love it!
Is there a list online showing which apps use openstreet maps?
I can tell you to try out OrganicMaps :)
I thought I would give Organic maps a go a few day ago and it’s really good. I really like how it extrudes building to give them volume, rather than most map apps rendering them flat.
I just installed it to check it out. 🙂
I would aviod organic maps unless your area is already mapped out very well because it only updates monthly compared to other maps like osm and which allow you to update the map as often as you want.
I’m using Osmand pro it’s very good.
@cerement Thanks so much for the share!
