That was an absolutely terrible and ignorant analysis.
What the author fails to understand is that while people like us (who enjoy reading political articles) have clear understandings of right and left-wing politics, the US is packed to the brim with voters who are completely untethered from this way of thinking.
Obama-Trump voters, for example, were voting based on … What? Clearly no overarching policy agenda or partisan identity.
So how do we know 3rd parties ARE dangerous to Democrats?
Easy. We look at the victory margins from the most recent elections, and we calculate how many razor thin victories or losses would have gone the other way had a third party candidate taken votes from one side of the other.
When you do that, you can see that Democrats are in grave danger. Because people simply do not understand what is at stake. They do not understand what candidates actually stand for. They will vote based on the success or failure if misinformation campaigns.
So don’t even think about relaxing. This stuff is incredibly dangerous.
We’re very close to an election between a tired, old, do-little moderate president, or the head of a fascist right-wing cult.
What a shit show.
All the Obama to Trump voters did that because they are sick of the political establishment. The danger to democrats isn’t third parties but their inability to pass legislation the vast majority of Americans agree on.
Seems to have sprouted a mandatory login link :-(
No you can just click “continue reading” on that pop-up and read the rest without logging in
Doh! Didn’t see that, thanks for pointing it out :-)
Now just convince them to disband the Commission on Presidential Debates
That is an absolute lie. There are far too many “bOtHsIdEs!!1!!!1!!” idiots to remotely make it a good thing for Democracy, much less Democrats. All Third Partys shall do is improve odds of Fat Joffrey getting back in the White House.
