Underrated point. I started out with all the usual bloatware and, at best, a rudamentary feeling why that might be bad. I ditched Windows by now and are activly trying to get rid of Google and their likes, replacing more and more apps with foss alternatives. Trying to pull my family in too. That simply not would have happend without beeing exposed to this by Lemmy.

Love my kids, love my wife. Feel useful at work. Getting rdy for the final stretch of my undergrad. Life is a grind atm and I don’t have a lot of free time, but I wouldn’t swap it for anything else.

Not Safe For Work, mostly nudity, sometimes violence.
I don’t know where you are doing the switching on or off part.
I do this over my app (Boost), where I have to turn it on (show NSFW content) to see it.
Gloomy@mander.xyztoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Yes Puppet, Yes Puppet, He's the Puppet6·3 months agoI don’t know about that. What I do is try to listen to why a group thinks a word is offensive.
The thing with “retard” is that it has been used to refer to people with mental disabilities for a very long time. By saying “republicans are retards” you say “rebilocsns are as stupid as people that were born with a mental disability”.
Thing is, people with mental disabilities are still people. There are goofy, snarky, nice, some are even quite big assholes. Many can be a lot of fun to interact with. They are just people, even if they are not as intelligent as you or me.
Referring to people as retarded, to me, means setting mentaly disabled people as the baseline for beeing idiots. And I just don’t think it’s fair to reduce them to something, they had no saying in what so ever. They didn’t choose to be born that way and they shouldn’t be reduced to just that.
/rant I guess
Gloomy@mander.xyzto Games@lemmy.world•Your all-time favorite game? Let's discuss the best options!English2·3 months agoTotal War: Warhammer 3. I play it more or less exclusively with a buddy in multiplayer. Been playing since part 1 came out. I love how the addition of magic and flying creatures changed the Total War formula up, the immense size of the map, the mixture of races.
Rimworld with a couple of hundert mods is still at the top, although I tend to let it rest for some months before I pick it up again.
Baldurs Gate 3 and Divinity Original Sin 2 are my favourite RPG games.
Used to play Skyrim with a bassilion mods a LOT and love it for the hours of enjoyment, but after so many years I have possibility played enoth of it… But who knows, might feel the itch and spend 48 hours trying to get every mod to run just to stop playing after one hour again at some point.
Loved the Mass Effect Triology. Only did one playtrough, that was intens and great.
Binding of Isaac is still my go to for a quick 30 minutes gaming session when I feel like it. I realy suck at it too, so after 12 years there’s still a lot left to do.

Gloomy@mander.xyzto World News@lemmy.world•Scientists issue dire warning: Microplastic accumulation in human brains escalatingEnglish11·3 months agoWas this writen by AI?
The researchers found surprisingly high levels of microplastics in the brain tissue. The concentration of plastics in the brain was much greater than that found in the liver or kidney samples. It was also higher than levels previously reported in placentas and testes. The median amount of total plastics for 2024 brain samples was 4917 micrograms per gram, and for 2016 samples, it was 3345 micrograms per gram. For comparison, the 2024 liver and kidney samples were 433 and 404 micrograms per gram, respectively.
Even more concerning was the finding that the amount of plastic in the brain was increasing over time. Brain tissue samples from 2024 had significantly higher levels of microplastics than samples from 2016, representing an approximate 50% increase in just eight years.
Isn’t that the same information just repeated after each other?
To measure the microplastics, the researchers first chemically dissolved the tissue. This created a liquid mixture. They then spun this mixture at very high speeds in a machine called a centrifuge. This process separated out any undissolved materials, including plastics, into a small pellet. Next, they heated this pellet to a very high temperature (600 degrees Celsius), a process that breaks down the plastic.
Why does this sound like somebody explaining this to a 10 year old?
You mean picking the spiders from you or from your backpack?
I case of the former, there are mosquito nets for hammocks. I use them when I go wild camping with my hammock almost every time.
I’m case of the later, maybe putting on the rain protection might help, as you can pull it off and give it a good shaking in the morning.
