Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•What’s happened to Australia’s green hydrogen dream? Here are 5 reasons the industry has floundered
2·1 year agoIt’s also time to rethink how subsidies are structured, to reflect the fact some sectors are better bets than others. At present, the federal government’s Hydrogen Headstart program and the hydrogen tax credit are agnostic as to how the hydrogen is used, which does little to help demand emerge in the right places.
I can understand the argument against being too prescriptive, we don’t always know what technologies will come forward over the next few years, a tight subsidy regime could limit the scope, or hamper the development of new applications in hydrogen fueling technologies.

Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•Environmental issues sidelined in Tasmanian state election
1·1 year agoI recently took a trip down in the South West region of WA, logging is fairly big there to, at least very visible with all the trucks on the roads.
I’ve kinda come to the conclusion that we need to harvest wood as a resource, but that we’ve not been managing regrowth or the expense that entails at all well ever. And when it comes to wood and forrests thats what needs to change.
Whether its leaving old growth alone, having harvesting schedules measured in twenty to forty year timelines, not selling woodchips to over seas countries, (which just astounds me), Theres been little investment in long term thought and preparation for a resource we need.

There is no way thats going to happen. Sometimes these articles about a report and yhreat to put some part of the environment on an endangered list feel more like we’re shuffling deck chaira on the Titanic. Like federal Labor might react a little bit to the report, but they won’t do 90%, and would the Crisafulli government even bother reading a report like this?

Seems an oversight to not even mention them here. Even if the main point is linking the Feds aspiration for COP to lack of real action on the extinction crisis.

And, have we just stumbled upon a gap in the bro science fad diet scene? Is this our Million dollar idea!?!
Move over Atkins, its time tobtake the world by storm with the Sane-Gorgritch Diet! Or maybe it could be called the Lipids Delight?

Thinking about it, i suppose it could come down to experts looking for best health delivery, versus what people can actually survive with? I don’t know.

Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•Cattle industry walks away from net-zero target by 2030 pledge
72·1 year ago“I think we can reduce [emissions], but I don’t think we can ever really achieve net zero working with livestock.” Caitlin Webb
So, no offence to the livestock industry but this means the rest of Australia needs to commit to alternative protein sources to drive that 11% share of emissions down from the outside.
This means the Government needs to be thinking and acting radically about supporting alternative competing industries like insect protein and the like.

So, over in Perth, i assume its the same across the country, we have these big bridges over freeways and highways, theres probably hundreds of them throughout the whole city. Theres massive piles of sand inside each side of each bridge.
So if the Polar Night Energy heat energy storage technology can be retrospectively fitted to these, thats potentially hundreds of heat storage batteries spread out across the road network just sitting there ready to use.

Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•Unapproved rewilding stirs debate over ethics and animal welfare
5·1 year agoIts definitely conflicting, i can see their intentions are relatively good, but the way they’re going about remibds me of how i imagine the people inteoducing Cane Toads went about the problems they perceived.
But they’re providing a habitat thats secure from the invasive species and perhaps some land based predators.
These guerilla rewilders could gift/lease for a dollar, the use of that land out to the environment department to come in, introduce the animals they know need help and support in a controlled and planned way. These sanctuary owners could be the daily custodians working in partnership with the environment department for the benefit of these threatened animals.

I wonder how many of his constituents know about this side of him, seeing as he’s touted by many as being on the “progressive” side of the Liberal party.
This article is a good demonstration for me of how much difference a stable income makes for the ability to be effective in your aims. And i disagree with so much of what they do. They’re so effective at crushing/postponing meaningful climate action.
