I care a lot less about what word they use than what ideals they espouse. They can call themselves egalitarians or antisexists or whatever label as long as they oppose sexism, misogyny, heteronormativity, and “gender roles”.
If a person can’t accept the basic premise that woman are equal to men, they’re sexist by definition. This isn’t the fault of “how feminism is promoted”.
Yes, my whole life. It’s how I was raised, but now that I’m an adult, it’s also what I choose for myself and how I’m raising my own children.
Feminism is the radical idea that a person’s worth, dignity, rights, and social status are not and ought not to be determined by their genitals.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it important/possible to separate the art from the artist?
4·1 year agoSeparate, no, not completely.
I’m very “Death of he Artist”, though, and think that the artist gets no special say in what the art is about once it’s complete. So yes, I still listen to and enjoy songs by The Mamas and the Papas and most songs by Ace of Base despite the reprehensible qualities of those artists, because the former didn’t write songs about sexual abuse and the most of the letter’s songs aren’t tinged by white supremacy.
But knowing what I do about them now, I definitely cast a critical eye over their catalogs, and of course I’ll never pay for anything by Ace of Base ever again.
Maybe you should edit your post to say what that is?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Did your school classrooms have a landline telephone for the teacher to use?
11·1 year agoKinda? You had to press a code to dial out, otherwise they were only good for calling the office or other classrooms.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do people wake up in the morning and then sit staring into space for about 20 minutes?
21·1 year agoMore of an “overcome by anxiety and feelings of failure” for me.
No, that’s how we do it over here, too, except the bowls are usually shaped in such a way that water doesn’t splash out.
It’s important that you know this: That’s a shit puller, not a shit pusher.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•In the United States, what makes a 'libertarian' right wing?
41·1 year agoA right libertarian believes that the best government is the smallest and most local, and that the government cannot and should not regulate sex, drugs, guns, or businesses.
A left libertarian believes that the best government is one that regulates the economy, protects the public commons, and safeguards the rights of minority groups but otherwise leaves people alone to do as they will.
I’m much more familiar with the former, so if I’ve erred in describing the latter someone please correct me.
Hasn’t happened yet! Not always succeeding in following the example of Christ, but still I try.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Almost a week here in lemmy and I still don't know how instances work?
13·1 year agoAn instance is a server. You can always communicate with everyone on your own server. You can also communicate with everyone on any other server yours is connected to. Not every server is connected to every other; but most are connected to most.
You don’t need an account on each one, but you may want to set up a second account on an instance you like to use as a backup. I have accounts on midwest.social, slrpnk.net, and piefed.social; they all see the same content 99% of the time. But every so often midwest goes down for maintenance, or slrpnk has a firewall issue, and on those days I just switch accounts and keep going.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•So this time I'll ask you what you will choose, do you mind?
18·1 year agoNB: OP has a history of posting vague questions, refusing to provide context, and arguing with or belittling those who respond. It’s not worth it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are your guys setup for using lemmy on your pc and phone?
5·1 year agoJerboa on android, default frontend in the browser on desktop. Jerboa is visually great, especially if you were used to RIF, and works very well. But since it’s made by one of the main lemmy devs, it’ll never support mbin or piefed.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•what's something you believe strongly but have little knowledge about
17·1 year agoI believe my wife loves me, even though she’s unable or unwilling to articulate why. There’s a song she likes where the chorus goes “I don’t know why I love you, I just do”, a sentiment she finds romantic and I find vaguely terrifying.

Though she’s the only one who could stop me, she’s never tried.
