Android@lemdro.id•How is OnePlus 13/13R compared to Samsung/iPhone?English
1·11 months agoWhen I mentioned that the Samsung operating system was more robust, I was just referring to the last four phones that were Samsung for me and, like you mentioned in another comment, rock solid. Right now my OnePlus 13 is the first OnePlus phone I’ve owned.
Having said that, I’ve had way more glitches on a Samsung phone. Obviously I’ve owned Samsung phones for the last 10 years.
Yesterday the only glitch that I’ve ever seen happened on my OP, but it wasn’t big. I just couldn’t get on the internet because my VPN wasn’t recognized. It did require me to restart my phone; the settings weren’t recognized for some reason, but everything was up and working perfectly afterward.
The Samsung Galaxy has a very fleshed-out operating system with a lot of proprietary apps and add-ons that can be quite overwhelming.
My OnePlus is fairly bare-bones, to be honest, and I have it configured this way. I like the operating system, although I have modified some settings to have it perform much like I remember my Galaxy, just because of what I’m used to.

Android@lemdro.id•How is OnePlus 13/13R compared to Samsung/iPhone?English
5·11 months agoComing from a Galaxy S21 (because of the green line problem/bug they have on their screens these days) and now using a OnePlus 13, I can say that there are definitely benefits to the OnePlus 13, some that override what was available in the Galaxy version. But to be totally honest, I think the Samsung Galaxy has a more robust operating system, fleshed out camera app, and of course a more populated ecosystem, accessories etc. You can find more things available for the Samsung phone.
Now that I’m using a OnePlus 13, I’m really enjoying the battery life, although I limit the charging to 80%, it’s pretty insane. It is a much slimmer phone and lighter, The screen seems to be slightly better, although coming from the original Samsung S9 (I Have had Samsung’s since the S7), I always thought that the s9 screen was in some way better than the S21.
I can’t rave about the sound or speakers. It is snappy and fast to use and not glitchy, which is great. I’m not particularly excited about the AI compression and algorithms it uses with the photos, I’ve honestly been looking at the G-camera app to try to get a better option for taking pics.
One huge bonus over the Samsung is that it has the IP69 dust and water-resistant rating. I got really sick of plugging in my Samsung Galaxy and having it refused to charge because of moisture in the port.
Finally, after shutting down a lot of the bloatware, it’s not as bloated as the Samsung ecosystem, and it’s incredibly good value for money. I’d say I’m happy with the OnePlus 13.

3·11 months agoThis has been happening all weekend, I use a vpn and often change servers to get something to play. But refreshing with patience and at times shutting down freetube then restarting has helped. It has been a huge pain lately for sure.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Never found a better plugin - chameleonEnglish
5·1 year agoI edited my comment here, but the privacy concern with Chameleon stems from its ability to access and modify data on all websites. This access is necessary for the extension to function, as it needs to alter the user agent and other browser settings. Obviously not great when on secure websites.

2·1 year agoCan someone explain why all the downvotes? I’ve always been of the opinion that the more plugins you have, the more identifiable you are, so if that is the reason for the downvotes, I’d understand.
Edit: It seems the extension requires access to all websites, which allows it to monitor and modify data from any visited site

2·1 year agoIt’s complicated but F-Droid flags software that may have parts in it that are not entirely free, fennec is a fork of Firefox and within the source code F-Droid is finding that there is something that isn’t totally foss. I suggest using obtainium ( look for it in F-Droid) and find the GitHub version of fennec.

41·1 year agoJust use F-droid and search for Fennec browser there. Or my preferred way is using Obtainium and manually searching for the version on GitHub, latest right now is 139.0.4

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Uk alternatives for streaming?English
3·1 year agoI’m not sure I’m the person to answer, the way I look at it Google is hard to get totally eradicated from every service. I think if you check out Kodi, Roku or if you are on a Mac Apple TV, these would be better options to use when trying to avoid Google. Of course using Plex as a server to stream your own content would work, but I would guarantee that one would be encountering Google on the way of getting that media unless its your own DVD rips etc.

4·1 year agoThe Thomson Streaming Box uses Chromecast technology and relies on Google services
“The Thomson Streaming Box, specifically the Thomson Streaming Box 240, allows you to turn a regular TV into a Smart TV. It operates on the Google TV platform, which is based on Android 12. This means it relies on Google services for its functionality, including access to various streaming applications like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and YouTube.” It’s all Google all the way by the looks of it.
