- Swindled - Mostly white-collar true crime with dark humor and disdain aplenty.
- 404 Media - The folks who used to do the Cyber podcast before they left VICE and are doing far better work, indy.
- Better Offline - Another tech podcast by Ed Zitron. He loves tech and can’t stand how fucked up the tech-bros are making the whole thing, at our collective expense.

2·2 years agoI’ve always liked Commento which can be self hosted, and you can set it up to be no sign-up/anon for users.
Thank you lemm.ee admins and welcome new folks! Newcomers, you picked the best instance by the way.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Super lazy reporting here by 5th Estate re CRA tax fraud8·2 years agoShopify is already long gone. More pointing out how corruption follows the money. Nobody in sales of a top company is unaware of the fuckery going on inside said company.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is a food that you want to cook but you know you'll never have the motivation to make?
3·2 years agoA middle ground I do often is buy frozen pizzas and then add my own extra toppings. They’re usually so cheap and skimp anyhow that I look at it like buying a starter pizza shell.
Everybody poops

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which is most privacy friendly instance of lemmy?
121·2 years agoGiven that all Lemmy instances are run by private individuals you should probably think about using a vpn (or dns proxy at the very least) to obfuscate your true location and data. This applies to any mainstream or corporate social media platform, obv.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada Tech Firm Shopify Fuels Fear of US Move With Filing Change68·2 years agoThey’re anti-tax and pro-tarif. They’ve been firing Canadian support workers and devs for years and outsourcing overseas. And they’ve been hiding money in places like Ireland (a tax haven) by opening hubs there.
They are only still in Canada on paper at this point anyhow. Fuck them, go hang out with the wall street bros.

British Columbia@lemmy.ca•Why did some people not receive an alert after the B.C. earthquake?English
8·2 years agoI got one about an hour after the shaking stopped over here on Vancouver Island. That long after, why bother. Several people had already texted/alerted about it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How is the Stock Market keeping it's value after *points to everything*?
11·2 years agoYou really seem to know what you’re talking about so I probably don’t have to link you to the article about Fanta which Coca-Cola (as you say, listed on the US Stock Exchange) made the “drink of the nazis” and profited bigtime from.
IBM had major contracts with the nazis and developed some of the earliest rudimentary card computing tech to keep track of all the interred jews in the camps. I bet you knew that as well. IBM wouldn’t be around today without those contracts and that early tech (and the money it brought in).
What the actual fuck do you have against potted plants that you would use that as an insult anyway.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How is the Stock Market keeping it's value after *points to everything*?
6·2 years agoLook up how IBM, Coca Cola and Volkswagen (among many, many other companies that are very much still established to this day) got their boom-times during WW2 by supporting both the allies and the fash at the same time. They profited from everything that happened, in every way, and continue to do so.
Fascism is good for business, so to speak.

British Columbia@lemmy.ca•B.C. Premier Eby bemoans 'chaos' and 'confusion' as U.S. tariff threat loomsEnglish
6·2 years agoWhat’s to think about? Place export premiums on lumber and other stuff we’re abundant in that they need. Does BC not have a plan? Trump has been threatening this shit for two months already ffs.
On Mac I’ve found Safari gets thru every time for some reason where chrome and Firefox do not. I might have the prevent IP tracking setting enabled or whatever but I never have to turn off my VPN (nor sign in) if the other browsers get flagged. Ymmv.
That could be the case. My work machine is on Debian 12 and I believe still on x11. I haven’t messed with Wayland yet.
I use these with good success. Can set up global/system-wide or per-app gestures and multi-finger actions. Works good in my opinion.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•How do I find ad and tracking domains and scripts in academic publishing websites?
5·2 years agoUse a DNS service like NextDNS or Control D and check the activity logs, block as needed. Or as others have said, UBlock has a custom rule creation feature. Use it. You select the elements you want to nuke, preview to see if it’s working as intended, if it is click save rule.

Today I Learned (TIL)@lemmy.ca•TIL A restaurant in Long Beach, CA, was found to be serving Popeye's chicken and passing it off as their own.
14·2 years agoAfter working in enough sysco-based restaurants I fucking hate eating out because that’s all I can taste is sysco products. I only eat at places that make their stuff from scratch and that’s hard to find, and spendy. But worth it.

CopWatch used to be pretty active and has apps for iOS and Android, but I see they haven’t been updated in a couple of years.
