2·7 months agoYeah, came here to say this. The data location makes almost no difference if confidentiality is the issue.

22·7 months agoI mean, Daniel is a name that was given to 2 of my schoolmates in Italy. And it could be just as well be given to any American in the last 80 years if not more.
I know we all don’t like stereotypes and that English is a Germanic language, but if you are trying to make the point that you are not American but German that is NOT the name I would have chosen.

264·7 months agoI hope Germans are smarter than that. Also, Daniel is not the most German name they could have found, I am sure a Klaus or a Reinhardt would have worked better. Unless Daniel is an American employee conceived in Germany by his parents and the tagline refers to him.
Also, here in Denmark and in Italy Coca-Cola relies on local bottling companies who would surely lose volumes, but those would be also freed up for local or do-good alternatives, such as Fritz Cola (which is very good in it’s zero calories version) and Gaza Cola (yeah, that’s probably never gonna happen in Germany, but still a good example).

7·10 months agoThat’s why I specified legally. Which, being American involved, I reckon still has very little meaning. I cannot undo mistakes I made 15 years ago. Stoically, I can only worry about how I can act in the present.

I haven’t ordered from Amazon in years so I don’t know how better things got, but I remember exactly why I stopped, and that’s because of the variety and convenience of ordering literally anything from smaller e-commerce sites in Sweden, using Prisjakt to discover the best products.
What my way of shopping differs from most people who order from Amazon is that I don’t want to be “inspired” to shop. I shop only what I need and for that I want the best, based on specifications and maybe the few detailed reviews made months after purchase that I may find for some products.
When I see a shopping platform using words like “inspiration”, “season” and “for you”, my rectum clinches.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Why does Signal want a phone number to register if it's supposedly privacy first?
1·10 months agoI also wondered who builds it from source.
Apparently it is this development team, which, I must say, has several interesting projects active:

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Why does Signal want a phone number to register if it's supposedly privacy first?
2·10 months agoI just checked and I installed Signal from F-Droid.
It says Repository: Guardian Project on the app page.
I am talking about Europe now:
we need trains. We need to unify the rail systems (rail width and electrical tensions) and the ticket systems. Europe could be easily served using a network of night train routes.
I think there should be way more political discourse about rail in the EU, but, for example in Italy, airports have been used as electoral campaigning devices.
Please notice I said real money. Of course they make some money from the tickets, but the highest number I could find is 60% of revenue, and you have to calculate that it is a hyper-regulated seasonal industry.
I don’t think airlines make any real money from the flights.
I don’t even know if the space in Star Wars is supposed to be empty space like ours. I seem to recall they have a rule not to show anyone ejecting or drifting in space for that same reason.
No.
They are all terrible movies, with droid-like performances, plot holes the size of a Sarlacc pit and effects and fight choreographies as pointless as the little pistons on the exterior of a surrogate hand.
Mark Hamill should be ashamed of agreeing to participate in them, even more to compensate the fact that apparently Ford cannot help himself from doing it here and in the Indy movies.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.ml•Game on Steam started giving D3D11 compatibility error when using Proton Experimental
1·10 months agoSeems to be a new requirement for a newer driver for experimental. Updating the driver manually to the latest compatible from the Nvidia website did the trick.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.ml•Game on Steam started giving D3D11 compatibility error when using Proton Experimental
21·10 months agoDamn, I am 2 weeks in Linux and this is giving me cold sweats.
Thanks anyway! I know that if PewDiePie could, I know I can do it too! Always better than a nazi!
Edit: Indeed this works! Apparently it is due to Experimental having been updated to Proton 10 to get fixes for some major new games.
If anyone wants to to have an even more step-by-step guide about how to do this, I recommend https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/ which has lots of guide and videos and useful comments.

I bet that was the original plan, then they saw that the goal was nowhere near and decided to rebrand a subpar product “for AI”.
