Investor: Can the wheel be made into a subscription service?
Oh they try. And we see the results.

I have those reasons. Multiple games, and several other work-related software requirements. And related to this post I literally have the physical media for UT2004 sitting on my desk because I recently reinstalled it. Like I said, I’m still running Linux on multiple machines but I’m not yet comfortable cutting the cord.
My job is only 10% IT but I’m going to be having to deal with this more soon. I have at least a dozen PCs I’m going to have to make decisions about before Win10 EOL. Maybe I’ll be more confident soon after switching over more PCs. Or less. We’ll see, it will go one way or the other.

Every time I’m getting close to abandoning Windows on my gaming rig I stumble in here and change my mind. I do run Linux on some other machines though.

I would see a northern wall in the future if this happened. I could honestly see it even if it never happened, the US doesn’t trust Canadian or EU immigration policy.
My elementary school childhood home, the fuse box was over the bathtub. And although they didn’t completely make it a shower, it did have a removable shower head on a hose mounted down low so you could use it to rinse your hair etc. You had to be really careful where you sprayed it though.
The DNC is bought and paid for by oligarchs. Almost all of the richest US billionaires lean Democrat. Musk is an anomaly, and look how he’s been targeted. I’m not saying it’s entirely unmerited.
So of course the oligarchs want the working class disarmed. And they don’t want populist candidates who want to improve people’s lives and cut into profits which is why the Democrats haven’t had a real primary in awhile.
The oligarchs also fund republicans hoping to control them the same way, but Trump got elected anyway. You might actually hate him 20% less if the bought corporate media hadn’t been weaponized against him. A lot of his positions were Democrat positions twenty years ago. Hillary had some crazy “deport the illegals” quotes back in the day.
I guess if you’re playing in a completely dark room, sometimes it’s nice to be able to see the keys by being backlit. I can type the alphabet stuff without looking easily, and most game control keys, but sometimes there are keys you don’t use very often where you kind of want to look to see if you’re hitting the right key. Having a pure white backlight isn’t always great in the dark, and having a bright rainbow isn’t always great either. Having the colors match the color scheme of what’s on your screen, again, completely unnecessary, but I can still see my keys and it matches the vibe. I’ve also only used it a handful of times.
Because they can? It’s kinda cool if you’re in a dark or dimly lit room. Obviously unnecessary. I have used it a few times on my desktop but most of my favorite games don’t have it supported. I also use a gaming laptop for my work because I do some video editing and it overall has good specs. But I don’t even have the RGB turned on for it, it’s just a work laptop to me.
If you have a keyboard that works with a major manufacturer’s software, some games have themed color schemes that change in-game to match the game scene you’re in.
I’ve never had a Blu-ray player and at this point I expect I never will.
I still have a big stack of blank CDs and DVDs. I burned a DVD late last year. I don’t think I’ve hit my last time yet. But maybe.

You can do whatever you want to do. So what I’m hearing is you no longer want to.

I’m in Ohio and my German is meh but I can understand 65%ish of what I see. It helps I lived in Duesseldorf for a year, but that was over 35 years ago so it doesn’t help enough.

I get it. But also I have about ten content creators on YouTube that I love that aren’t hosted anywhere else other than scalping reposters. I try to go there and only watch the handful of new videos from those channels but occasionally I get sucked in by the algorithm with other videos I end up liking pretty well.

Some people don’t want to hear this but Mastodon will never be mainstream without major changes. Even Mastodon users are all on other platforms. I’m not planning to go to Bluesky tho.

I want to move away, but 1GB? Right now I’m paying $2/mo to get 100GB.

Many other countries use them too, although the US does use a lot. It does concern me that China might be wanting to use this to accelerate war, seize Taiwan etc before there are alternate sources available.

Didn’t China halt all exports of rare earth minerals to the whole world?
The minerals aren’t actually rare, they’re just in low concentrations and difficult to extract. It’s just a matter of time before thet set up mining and precessing somewhere else. It won’t be in the US though. It’ll be somewhere with super cheap labor and no regulations or environmental protections. Which is why it was in China in the first place.
My first PC was a Timex Sinclair 1000 and I wrote a text-based choose your own adventure game in basic for it and saved the program on audio cassette.
