  • I’m Indigenous Canadian and my dad was born in the wilderness in a very traditional lifestyle in northern Ontario. His first and only language was Ojibway/Cree, he understood English but seldom spoke it as he preferred his our language only.

As a teen in the 90s I loved watched TNG and I watched it as often as I could whenever I could. I never stuck to a schedule and we only had the most basic satellite TV package we could afford at the time. I was so engrossed and loved the show so much that my dad at one point asked me … ‘It’s amazing that people are up there now that are doing all those things’

I had to explain to him that it was all just as show that was fake and that none of it was real.

To me … this is my favourite TNG moment … that the show was so convincing and well performed that it made my dad believe that it was real.

To be fair, my dad was probably the most intelligent person I’ve ever known and an excellent teacher. In his prime, he often just walked into the wilderness with nothing but a knife in the fall and came back midwinter with a stack of furs to trade and make money and then head back out again with very little to survive on. He just wasn’t that aware of what the outside world was all about.

  • Canada’s future, as is every other country in the world, lies in not accepting and not allowing fascism and control by the wealthy minority to take control of everything.

Democracy is government by the people for the people … not this stupid monsterous system we’ve created where a complicated series of controls and manipulations make us all believe we have fair and equitable elections that go on to select pre-approved leaders that are beholden to the most wealthy and powerful minority of people that control our country.

I’ve been sitting here for ten minutes trying to read your happy face marching emoji man.

Those characters are a variation of syllabics used by many algonquin and Inuit indigenous languages. Best I could come up with was PEE-AH-POO … which means nothing to me … I speak my Ojibway Cree language, it’s my first language before English … I went through my vocabulary trying to figure out what the characters meant … then I realized what it was.

Lol … thanks for Happy Emoji Marching Man

  • Write everything in digital form … use text only because it’s easier to archive, manage, organize and refer to in the future

Encrypt as much as you can and keep a copy locally and in as much safe keeping and off line as much as possible whenever and however you can.

I wouldn’t worry about having the state come after you and use the information against you … or worry too much about intelligence agencies cracking your encryption and reading all your writing … really … who cares because if the state does want to come after you, they wouldn’t care what evidence was available … a journal might make their case easier but in the long run, they wouldn’t care any way.

I would think about the journal and writing from an archival point of view. You’re not writing and creating all that content for yourself … you’re writing and creating it for future generations to see and read. Sure, it might get destroyed or erased … but it also might have a chance of being stored, shared, archived and rediscovered in the future. It would be like reading journals and content written by people before the first or second world wars and historians would gain a valuable insight into the minds of people during our time period. The information we produce now doesn’t matter much to anyone right now whether for good or bad reasons … the information we create now will mean so much more to people far into the future.

So go ahead … write, write often and write as much as you can … the more you write, the more you leave behind for someone in the future to find.
