- Paid Joe Rogan US$100 million for his alt-right podcast.
- Donated $150,000 to President Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration ceremony, as well as hosted an inauguration-related brunch.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Open source real time voice changer app for making phone callEnglish
4·1 year agoA few years ago, the UK Justice Minister called for a ban on the sale of tiny, lipstick-sized mobile phones that came with a voice-changing function built in. (Article) They were being smuggled into prisons and the convicts were using them to commit crimes from the inside, including making intimidating phone calls to witnesses etc.
What a sad day that would be for legitimate rectally-insertable, voice-changing cellphone enthusiasts!

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•IPTV FOSS Android AppEnglish
2·1 year agoI’m also interested. Every now and then, I try to find one.
The last time I think it was Fasto TV Lite from this list:
But IIRC it just would not go full screen (you need to buy the full version for that I think) and I soon uninstalled it.
And the last time I tried IPTVnator on Android, it couldn’t handle a large playlist, like IPTV-org.
ATM I’m using a proprietary app, Televizo, or the website https://tv.garden/ .

3·1 year agoNot an expert but I’ve read comments that it handles complex MS Office-created documents better than Libre Office, as internally LO converts everything into ODF, even if it will be saved in original MS file format. IIRC Only Office, SoftMaker, and WPS leave the file in MS format, leading to less unwanted changes.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What is your most useful Linux app which others might not know about (please don't just give the name but a link and why it is good for you) ?English
31·1 year agoKDE Connect
I’ve used it a lot just to control audio or video playing on my computer from my phone. (Sometimes when I’m sat at my computer with multiple windows and workspaces open, I even find it easier just to hit my phone’s lockscreen to pause the music.)
I’m starting to use some of its other features, too. E.g. copying & pasting and sharing files between phone and computer.
There’s more too I need to explore.
(Unfortunately, sometimes I get a ‘device unreachable’ error when both devices clearly have a working connection to the same router.)

3·1 year agoStrange, it works for me. So I’ve pasted it into the OP if you still want to read it.
Basically, use of proprietary software and services was demanded at all levels (doing tasks, submitting assignments, attending online classes, completing forms etc), especially as the pandemic picked up. Lecturers would often refuse or not even respond to his requests to use free alternatives, and some would count his not being in a Zoom or Skype meeting as an absence.
