Privacy@lemmy.ml•Can't we do anything as google is killing AOSP and custom ROMS
5·6 months agoI wish that was the case but there is no source code, not even a web app. That’s the problem with most of them.

12·6 months agoSadly there are apps that don’t have an F-Droid replacement.
muhyb@programming.devOPtoUnixporn@lemmy.ml•[i3-gaps] Welcome to my typewriting machine. Nothing too fancy but does its job well.
1·7 months agoI hope you’re still around because I coincidentally found the dotfiles while checking my old files. Here it is if you’re still interested. A lot of thing has been changed as in Linux since then though. :)
Instead of data loss, you get carrier loss.
No problem! I’m in the same boat since I have to deal with Android TV as well but it sucks. It’s hard to find an open source alternative for anything. It’s a sealed box unless you install a custom ROM which is not the case for most of the devices, especially smart TVs. You can sideload apks over
adbthough, if you can find an app that is not on Google Play. If you don’t use a Google account, you have to sideload everything anyway (which is what I did last time). There is TV Bro as @Babalugats suggested but it’s not comfortable as Browser and it’s not so up-to-date. Most of the open source apps you’ll encounter have the same issue. It’s not that developers don’t want to develop apps for Android TV, it’s just Google (and manufacturers) don’t let them to play around freely.
Wish I could help since I looked for this a lot but sadly Android TV is a barrens for FOSS apps. Though following this thread if you find something.
Currently we use Browser at home, at least it has an adblocker. Generally I hate Android TV. I would use a LibreELEC TV if I could.

That’s… too realistic.

As a game dev I prefer Arch-base (I’m using EndeavourOS) and I use Godot. However if you think Arch may not be for you, then I suggest Fedora.

Don’t know about its current state but this helped me a lot with moving out to a new place, years ago. The version how I remember wouldn’t be so helpful with renovations I think. Still can be used as placeholder though.
Funny thing, I had to do this because I’m lazy too. Now I just download. :)

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Can we Degoogle ourselves using an iphone rather than droid? Android is my big hangup right now.
4·8 months agoYes, and now with this Play Integrity thing is activated, it will comprise probably all of the apps from Google Play in time. Not for rooting but for ROMs, this is probably bypassable with more targeted ROMs, like GrapheneOS but I reckon that will cause a decrease in the ROM count.
It’s totally cool! I like to see others’ scripts. I agree, there is always something new to learn. I also liked how human readable is this. Thanks for sharing.
Actually I’m quite proud of my version but didn’t know about these at all. If I knew about this prior, I most likely wouldn’t try to build from scratch. Thanks for sharing.

I stopped using Google Play Services 6 years ago. I only do my banking on PC. However, there are things I cannot do this. One example is, my local municipality’s public transportation app. It doesn’t have source code, it doesn’t have a web app, it doesn’t even have an API. I already cannot use its some parts due to its dependency of Google Play Services. Not having this app would just make my life harder.
