I use OSMAnd+. The searching is the biggest problem, so I will contribute to StreetComplete in an effort to improve the areas in which I travel.

When I do need a location that isn’t found in OSM, I’ll grab the coords from LatLong.net and copy/paste them into OSM. When I get to the destination, I’ll pop open street complete and fill in details in the hopes that next time will be better.

Not MENSA, but came to the unfortunate realization that I’m on the skinny side of the intelligence bell curve late in life. For me, I was frustrated that I could not easily relate my thoughts and ideas to others. I’d just get a blank stare or worse. I figured that I was dumb and everybody else knew something that I didn’t. So I kept quiet and kept all my thoughts to myself.

Many years later, I tried again to voice my thoughts and ideas, but would use lots of examples and references to areas where my listener may be familiar. That seemed to work.

It was only when I started talking about my feelings to others when I realized that things in my head work differently. I’m able to absorb information faster and deeper but also extrapolate those learnings to other unrelated areas.

What you’re saying reminds me of things that vegans say: “If everybody knew the full story, they’d change their behaviour”. I think this is only partially true since change is hard.

I lurk in some vegan forums for the recipes but the majority of posts seem intended to invoke outrage, probably to help promote behaviour change.

Now, what if there were books and movies and forums about the horrors of automated factories? Would people change?

I’ve had the same thought. It’s defeatism. I was told that protests help bring like minded people together to organize, share ideas and implement plans to change things. A person can’t change things but many people can.

What if just being there helps you feel hope again?

When filing paperwork, like in those hanging file folders, the papers should be placed into the folder with the paper’s left margin up. This way, any stapled pages can be flipped through as a bunch rather than individual pages. Also, the most important text tends to be left justified, such as the return address. Apparently this goes counter to every accountant’s training, but I’m sticking to it.

How do you feel about mandated helmets for children?

Same. I have a weird box hoarding problem now. I keep all the original boxes for stuff because when I move, it’s best to put the stuff back in the original box. I haven’t moved in almost 20 years, but I still have the boxes. Also, I need to keep all those “good sized” boxes for stuff that I’ve ordered. My spouse will look at me weird when I pick up a box and say, “this is a good box; we should keep it.”

I’ll mute the ads and add my own dialogue. It’s sort of like Weird Al for commercials.

Similar story. I was in elementary school and fell off the monkeybars and landed flat on my back and knocked myself out, surrounded by kids. I woke up later and everyone was gone, so I got up and went back to class. I got detention for being late. When my parents asked why I “skipped class” I said that I didn’t know and was grounded for not telling the truth.

I did other dumb things, mostly around bodies of water (cliff diving, rip currents). I’m surprised that I’m not dead. As an adult, I’m afraid of everything.

If that’s the case, I’d recommend treating them like spam: reply and you’ll get a lot more.

Mostly, it’s a huge emotional and time investment if you want to change someone’s behavior and from what I gather, it’s a one on one type of thing and really hard. If you want to stop them from interacting negatively with others, your best action would be to report them.

If you’re upset and want to vent, then engaging will be fun for a while, but mostly futile in terms of behaviour adjustments.

There’s a lot of other good suggestions here, so I’ll just ask, what outcome are you hoping to achieve?

Search for “general strike 2028”. It’s in the works already.

I didn’t describe it correctly. I see people approaching the roundabout with their left signal on, leave it on until they take the 3rd exit. I’ll also see approaching with their eight signal on and take the 1st exit. The intersection used to be a standard perpendicular intersection with traffic lights.

It sounds as if you’re saying to signal left on approach indicating a merge, then signal right to indicate an exit from the circle. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen that in action.

Tell me more about the roundabouts and exiting. Are there left exits from a roundabout? Don’t they all circulate anticlockwise (when viewed from above)?

There’s a new roundabout in my town and nobody knows how to signal. I see people enter with left signal flashing and then they’ll take the 3rd exit (out of 4 total). I’ve always entered without a signal, then exit right with a signal.

Also, I’ve seen many people go around backwards. That’s a fun surprise.

I was going to post a link to Once A Month Meals (or is it Cooking?) but it looks like they charge a subscription now. A lot of sites have freezable recipes now.

Anyhow, it’s different than leftovers. Cooking lasagne? Make 4 trays. Burritos? Make 25. The key to freezer meals is to cool them completely before freezing and wrap it tightly or else you’ll get frost. For pasta, get those tin trays and use press&seal to store. For burritos, wrap in parchment paper, then foil as foil can stick to the tortilla.

Since covid, there’s been a lot of food in the house. Something about not being able to get it when we wanted made us buy more, more often and stockpile. Of course, food expires and throwing it away means that it was a bad decision to buy so much, so eating it is the only financially responsible thing to do, right?

Check out the overlay filesystem. I’m using it for one pi and have had the same SD card for years. I don’t know if it’ll work for pinole, but may get you thinking in a new direction.

Sometimes I think you’re right. Other times I think that couldn’t possibly be true.

I’ve studied many of the bigger wars and they’ve all mostly have been started by far less severe events. It’s scary that one person could wield all that power, unchecked and unaccountable.

Probably not, but it could open up a whole new set of business possibilities for creative Canadians. As the article points out, building repair kits for cars & tractors to sell world wide or selling printer ink bypass kits or mandating in country app stores.

I’m no economist, but I don’t think this will offset the cost of the US tariffs to everyday Canadians, but it will steal profits from US companies who will cry to uncle trump that Canada’s stealing their lunch money. He may reconsider the tariffs.

If I had my way, Canada would also make a statement that US copyright works are not copywritable in Canada, so copy & distribute to the world. Worst case, Canadians get free US music, movies & software. Best case, concerned US companies establish a presence in Canada and pay taxes, bring jobs, etc.

Canada’s boss move is to remove the intellectual property laws that the US asked for and let Canadian companies and consumers thrive again.
