Games@lemmy.world•Sony announces the PS5 Pro with a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI upscalingEnglish
35·2 years agoDarn, I posted this earlier but sadly lemm.ee is having server issues. This’ll be the main thread, then.
Official Blog Post | PS5 Pro Reveal Trailer
The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.
The big question mark for me is that not only does it cost 800 euros, it does NOT come with a disc drive. There is no version of it with a disc drive like the PS5, you have to buy it as an accessory. I guess physical games really are going away.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•This is way too expensive for a drink.English
954·3 years agoNot to mention Lipton Ice Tea is rubbish. You can make your own for 1/10th of the price, and it’ll taste 10x better.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Meta Quest 3 Is Now Used More On Steam Than The HTC ViveEnglish
341·3 years agoNot surprising considering there’s little to no competition in that price range. Pretty much every not-bad PC headset is $1000+, and heavy hitters like Valve Index haven’t had a hardware refresh in years.
Whew, I was getting worried we were one day into 2024 and nobody said this yet.

1·3 years agoI’m really going to miss his videos, but I’m glad he’s ending it on a happy note rather than dragging things on when he doesn’t want to. Godspeed, Tom.

It’s similar to batocera in that it’s a minimalist UI front-end for emulators, but it’s a bit more modern and simpler to use. It can be used as an application (probably the recommended way), or installed as an operating system if you’re using something weak like a Raspberry Pi.

Linux@lemmy.world•Is it me or is (desktop) Linux still a terrible experience?English
381·3 years agoI’m not going to say using a different distro will fix all your problems but yeah, your experience is not normal. A lot of this is because Ubuntu is not highly recommended. It’s just popular, but there are a bunch of terrible decisions it makes that barely anybody recommends it.
Of course Ubuntu just threw out the old installer for debian files, and didn’t replace it yet. Wouldn’t want a user to just be able to easily install files!
Checks out. Ubuntu is also one of the only modern distros that doesn’t come with Flatpak, which is a massive store of applications that’s quite easy to use and has a huge store of applications.
May I recommend something like PopOS instead? It’s based on Ubuntu so everything from there will work on it, including .deb files. It’s basically Ubuntu but with way, WAY saner defaults and a better beginner experience. I think your experience will be a lot better on a nicer distro.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Sr. game designer on Warcraft: eat shit Bobby Kotick you pathetic ghoul. waste the millions you didn’t earn from people whose talent and light you will never understand.English
901·3 years agoThere was also one string of Tweets in which many seniors from the Overwatch crew blamed Kotick for sabotaging the franchise and ruining Overwatch 2 with terrible decisions from higher up getting in the way of development. I really felt that one since I used to be an OW fan.
Everyone knew something was off when the game director which was extremely passionate (Jeff Kaplan) just straight up left the team after OW2 was announced. Really sucks, but at least we got some context.
Posts like this are so reassuring because it means mods are doing their jobs well :)
Despite looking childish, Snakebird is actually a really good puzzle game that gets very difficult. I played it on my phone and would recommend picking it up.
It would be kind of ironic to have an isitdown community on Lemmy itself. If an instance it down nobody from there would be able to post, and if the instance the community is made on is down then then none of the posts would federate

481·3 years agoWere they though? After they fixed the drivers and used proper transition layers for directX they’re really decent entry-level cards.
I know reading is hard but you realize this quote was reason #5 of the many reasons listed… I’m not going to copy-paste the article, it’s all relevant info.
Honestly you should just stick to Fedora.
Why?

General Discussion@lemmy.world•Heists like seen in Die Hard I actually exist?
6·3 years agoThis one is insane. The police response really does feel like it’s straight out of an action movie.
On 7 November at 9:30 am, Operation Magician was under way, commanded by Detective Superintendent Jon Shatford of the Metropolitan Police. A total of two hundred officers were involved in the operation, of which forty were from the Specialist Firearms Command (SCO19). A further sixty armed Flying Squad officers were stationed around the Thames, and twenty on the river itself to hamper any escape attempts. Surveillance officers were disguised as Dome employees. The Millennium Dome’s CCTV room was used by the police as a control room.

Technology@lemmy.world•2024 could be the year the PC finally dumps x86 for Arm, all thanks to Windows 12 and Qualcomm's new chipEnglish
543·3 years agoPeople probably said the same thing when Apple dropped PowerPC for x86, there’s going to be an awkward transition period but when it becomes a standard you’ll feel differently.

Sadly not an option for console. I don’t own a PS5 currently but when I did own consoles I would trade games and buy used all the time, it’s a shame this might not be possible next generation.
