I finished “dungeon crawler Carl” by Matt Dinniman, and currently reading the second book in the series “Carl’s doomsday scenario”. So, even though I didn’t remember getting the first book, and being a bit reluctant to start it, I enjoyed it a lot. I did have to get into it for a while. Overall the pacing is nice, the humor is great without getting in the way. The premise of the story is of course quite nonsensical, but it doesn’t get in the way of some good storytelling. All in all a very entertaining book.

I have seen ads on the internet for over twenty years. The enshitification is not because of ads, but because of the will of a few big companies to extract as much money from the internet as possible, without wanting to give anything in return and without even contributing in any way.

Finished the fifth and sixth books in the “old mans war” series. I am now starting “dungeon crawler Carl” by Matt Dinniman. I had it on my ereader, I don’t know why or when I put it there. So I’m going in blind, will give an update how it went next week!

TLDR: They didn’t clash, but merely shared their insights, which were actually quite similar.

I’ve been working with my current company for 6 years, company before this one 11 years, before that one 8 years (and before that some shorter terms). These last two times I’ve switched because I didn’t like the way the company was managed anymore (and where my job was going because of that), coworkers were great and pay was fine both times. I found it refreshing to start somewhere new both times, you get to reposition yourself because you have no history in the company and you can view the “company politics” from some distance. Based on my experience I would always advice to look for a new job when in doubt.

I finished the third and fourth book in John Scalzi’s “old man’s war” series. Currently on the fifth (out of six), so I expect to be looking for something else in the following week. I probably won’t be reading a lot this weekend due to carnival though.

The books in “old man’s war” are overall a good read, I liked the third book a little less (the fourth one made up for this), and I’m also not sold on the fifth one yet. Depending on my mood after reading the sixth book I’ll probably look into other works by Scalzi. I might also check out some SF books by Charles Stross, I did enjoy “the laundry files” a lot.
