Fierce street fighting and Israeli bombardment continue in Rafah a day after tanks rolled into the center of the southern Gaza city, where hundreds of thousands of civilians are sheltering. Israeli strikes have killed at least 37 Palestinians, most of them in tents.

Israel’s military reports it has seized control of the entire length of Gaza’s border with Egypt, known as the Philadelphi Corridor. This marks a significant deepening of its ground invasion despite international condemnation.
