Virtual desktops are superior to additional physical monitors. I’m fully prepared to die on this hill.

      More monitors More virtual desktops
      Has cool animation 0 1
No wierd mouse movement 0 1
      Doesn’t need new wallpaper 0 1
      Cheap 0 1
      Infinitely expandable 0 1
No need for cable management 0 1

      WINNER: Virtual desktops

Watch a full screen movie while you do something on another monitor. Virtual desktops can’t do that.

How do you keep your concentration on two monitors? When I had two monitors, I put black wallpaper on the second monitor because the usual ones distracted me

I’m either immersed or i multitask. You can do both?

Then again, my sis Works on her notebook while reading a magazine while watching tv while listening music on the smartphone she uses to chatt. Pure stress to me.

Yeah I can do both. Most movies are dialogue forward so I’m not always watching the screen. And then when there is a break in my game (loading screens, waiting for something to happen, mindless tasks) I can watch the screen. I only do it with games like Minecraft, Satisfactory, Cities Skylines, etc.

You can pin the movie to all desktops in one monitor, and combine the powers of the virtual desktops, and the other monitor(s)

Oh yeah for sure I could use virtual desktops in addition. But a single monitor doesn’t accomplish what I said. Hence why I brought it up as a counter point.

Why am I comparing moitors to virtual desktops?

            I don’t know

            Does it make sense?

            No

Do i use my 2nd virtual desktop more than my 2nd monitor?

            Yes

Am I lost in what I am trying to prove?

            Absolutely.

Watch a full screen movie while you do something on another monitor.

Just pause the movie, do the thing, and then go back to watching the movie.

If you’re developing and want a live display of your program, nothing beats a second monitor to see your progress live if you want to see the progress on your computer.

      Other cases %100 agree

Yes, so much easier to switch between two desktops than having them actually visible at the same time.

I used to have 9 in a 3x3 grid in Plasma, so I could always reach any workspace in two or less touchpad swipes.

Such a fun game. I doubt the current ubisoft could create a comparable game. 2 was great for the size of it but felt a little lackluster in immersion, Legion was… ubisoft “capture zone, unlock tower” but cyberpunk-adjacent.

The sequel disappointed me greatly. Haven’t even played Legion. The original story was so captivating and emotional. Took my by surprise and I was so invested in it.

Legion is… bad. Every enemy is a bullet sponge, a “nonlethal” stun machine gun takes like 30 rounds to down a non-heavy enemy. it’s just a bunch of cycling through different specific areas, completing the objective , and getting away. The DLC prequel story with Wrench and Aiden is cool, but otherwise its standard ubisoft repetitive shlock.

The art and environment is beautifully grungy though, and raytracing reflections are gorgeous. The general world building is interesting. There’s just no compelling plot.

I’d love a big game with T-bone/ray Kenney as the main character (in a different area than Chicago, the second game mentions him messing around in NYC so I could see it), not just a DLC.

I gave up with ubisoft after seeing that ac mirage had the same level of graphical detail as the original ac, but with a worse campaign, and a higher system requirement

What do you usually do on your computer? My desktops always fill up after 5 minutes of doing anything, even while using two or more monitors. Also, have you tried kde?

I usually program or reverse engineer using Ghidra. I have tried KDE, but it feels too fancy for me. I prefer the simple looks of XFCE. Maybe I’m just getting old, sigh.

But! I have tried virtual desktops and it’s not my thing really.

If you know reverse engineering, you most likely know what you’re talking about. If it’s not your thing, it’s not your thing. That’s something I can agree with.
