The only way to atone for our past is to stand up against israeli apartheid, occupation and genocide, says Macklemore in Germany | #FreePalestine

I’d like to interpret it this way: we must learn and “atone” as the whole mankind for the mistakes that our ancestors did, by trying not to repeat it and strive to stop what is happening right now. For most of us humans right now, our opinions don’t matter much to the decision of Israel to continue the genocide, but at the very least we shouldn’t stop acknowledging that this is a genocide.

    Israel murdered 30 000 Palestinians.

Nazi Germany murdered 6 million Jews.

It will not atone for Nazi Germany’s crimes.

And does this nazi Germany you talk about exists today?

In my view the debt is long paid by those who committed the evils and by those who let it happen. Europe was purged after ww2. Dresden (and other cities) where made into firestorms, killing everyone.

How long can somebody, a nation, a people be held responsible for crimes they did not commit?

Everyone who was a part of NAZI deutschland is long gone and dead. Everyone. Nazism still exist but that is not an exclusive german issue.

Forget? Never. “Atone”? 80 years later? Moronic.

Every, every people of this earth have participated in genocide and slavery at one time or another. There are no exclusions. We should learn from the past. See the death and misery. And not repeat it. Work to repair as far as possible.

But holding someone responsible, telling someone they must atone for crimes of their great grand parents… Nah man. That’s stupid.

Ship of Theseus paradox. It’s pretty interesting how that paradox is very similar to what happens to a country after many years after a war or other big events.

Nazi Germany, and Europe in general—and this includes United Kingdom and definitely Russia—validated Zionism.

Europe is hardly in a moral position to condemn Israel. American leftists, who live on land stolen by genocidal policies are also hardly in a moral position to criticize Israel; and Muslim-majority countries are also hardly in such a position either.

        Never forget? Apparently AFD has.

I think the idea is to atone in perpetuity. Germany must always remember, through the generations, that it was once super evil and must thus always oppose evil wherever it sees it. Today it’s Israel, tomorrow it might be someone else.

      That’s the message.
