Maybe Lemmy is attracting old meme people and content consumers and not content creators as much. The main. Feed is 90% memes and near useless unfortunately. It is for sure turning to dismiss it as not a serious Reddit alternative.
So unsubscribe from meme communities for the moment if you don’t like it. They’re simply currently the most active communities at the moment. If you want more in-depth content, perhaps contribute yourself. I have been contributing on non-meme subs, and it’s mostly been successful.
No need to get salty. I am just pointing out what first impressions are as when you are new you have no subscriptions yet and that means you are looking at the main feed which is 90% memes. If we cannot be open to criticism here, this community will struggle to grow. Especially of others are hostile.
i understand your point. at the moment lemmy is pretty young, but i see it as a process. At the moment i think lemmy is acquiring new users. since i do not have any significant hobbies or knowledge to share, i thought i will do my part in lemmy’s growth by creating something and uploading it. i do think lemmy will gain some traction and a lot of new communities will florish over the next weeks and months. I guess we all need some time to get used to this new experience.
I love the way people interact with each other on lemmy. Seems to me like a lot less toxic environment. Let’s hope it stays that way.
Sorry bud, didn’t mean to come off as salty. It just doesn’t bother me that much because it’s my choice how to curate my own feeds. My view isn’t that some service needs to prove itself to me as much as I know what I am looking for in a service/community and it’s not a “prove it” type thing as much as paying attention to how communities work and accepting that it is different than I am used to. I personally don’t see why it’s worth complaining about, is all. Especially when it’s so simple to adjust the feed to my own liking by dropping communities that overwhelm others.
Change isn’t a bad thing, and neither is constructive criticism, but that criticism would probably make a lot more sense in the asklemmy community or some other community that is about improving the site, not just a random meme shitpost the developers and admins won’t see. Complaining about it here doesn’t seem like it will do much except bother the people who are actually enjoying the site. Your experience of not liking it is not universal, I’m sorry to say.
I dont think they were hostile, just matter of fact. You’d get a similar recommendation over at reddit. You have control of your feed.

I don’t know, I think it’s some dago word, but it sounds like a hockey term…

Oops, I dropped my Monster API for my Magnum Comment.
Anything to build community here on lemmy
I’m trying to repost some memes I saved to increase content and lemmy usage
@goa_mpu Making content just to have content makes very boring content. Also talking about how many users are on Lemmy and how it is not Reddit.
@jabberati I agree with your point, that content for content’s sake is not ideal. i wanted to contribute to our new community, without reposting old stuff, which was not created by me, to gain interest and participation. I sincerely hope someone more creative will post better and more original stuff than me in the future. Until then i will continue to make some memes if the mood strikes.
