any danger that comes from nuclear energy is minuscule compared to the danger that comes from fossil fuels, which are proven to be a main factor in climate change and to cause cancer
The important part is the scale. When you look at exactly how much coal is burned, even a tiny fraction of a percent being radioactive is actually a lot.
Both are cataclysmic if they are done wrong. People even forget the Sellafield leaks that happened some 35 years ago. Leaks cause cancer, damage crops, water ways and soils… It doesnt have to blow up to be dangerous. And part of that danger comes from a lack of regulations. Bring in those regulations to protect environments, animals and people and we can happily have nuclear again.
Until then in places like the UK there is no requirement to safely store waste to high standards, no requirement to monitor the environment around plants, and little powers from energy bodies (eg OFGEM) when these problems arise.

And just as a bonus, coal power plants emit more radiation than nuclear plants.
Under normal operation that is.
How so? I’ve never heard that before.
Carbon isotopes and other trace elements in coal that get airborne with the smoke.

No no no…!
