I was looking for a new USB-c hub and came across this article. It’s an interesting write-up of what is on the inside of some popular options
@otter The conclusion I have come to after going through many USB C multi hubs is that they are all, basically, dogshit, and will cause you more frustration than they solve.
I eventually just got a USB C to USB A hub and plugged dedicated devices (ethernet adaptors, etc) directly into it. If you want video and power, I guess you’d want a generic thunderbolt hub instead.
But USB C multihubs: just say no!
