I think Riccardo is at risk. His performance hasn’t been that great and crashing in Netherlands was a rookie error. Marco probably isn’t impressed. Whereas Lawson was immediately on point, fighting way up the field without any fuss.
Riccardo has lost that racing edge. All his confidence is gone, you can see that. It’s a pity as I really like him but Tsunodo performs better at the moment.
Oof, I don’t agree, although I absolutely see why you say that. I do think Ricciardo is fundamentally overvalued though and my cold, logical side says he’s not the most useful person to have in that seat.
It would be harsh if this crash was the snowflake that ends in the avalanche of his losing the seat, but I honestly think he’s been living on borrowed time ever since Norris thoroughly outclassed him (and I’m not, unpopular opinion, a Norris fan by any means).
His performance hasn’t been great? We’ve basically seen nothing from him yet, there’s not enough data to say that. In my opinion he had fine races in the AT. And I don’t think the crash was his fault. He didn’t see Piastri there until it was too late, and then he did the only thing he could’ve done: crash into the wall instead of crashing into Piastri.
Don’t get me wrong though, he’s definitely is at risk if he fails to deliver. Now that Lawson has shown what he can do, AT/RB are under pressure to give him a place in F1. And if Ricciardo under-performs in the coming races then I definitely see them putting Lawson in that car next year.
