Unironically: oh shit, for real? Like, actual MS.Paint, not that Paint 3D shit?
Actually pretty dope. I’ll still probably go with Photoshop for anything beyond cropping a screenshot though since MS sat on their hands for too long on making MS Paint better, and now I’ve got habits.
Photoshop takes ages to open, though.
Why? Takes about 15 seconds on my computer if I have a bunch of other stuff running, which is always.
Paint takes less than 1 second on my system. 20 seconds is pretty crazy to do basic editing/blurring/cropping/etc.
Yup. The reason I still use paint, is that sometimes what I want to do is so simple that I’m done before Photoshop would have even loaded (which takes about 10 seconds on my pc).
Less than 20 seconds for me, same as lightroom

Ah, it depends on the person. For me, 20 is a good time. Because I don’t do basic things with photoshop.
Can’t see the advantage of faster start time if the capability of the program is crap.
Anything over 5 second is pretty damn slow.
Photopea.com is pretty cool
… why? That sounds like extra work, does it do anything particular that Photoshop and MS Paint don’t?
It’s a free and browser based clone of Photoshop. I guess the biggest advantage is that it’s free, but I’m not sure if it has many of the advanced Photoshop features. Great for doing simple things.
Browser based makes it a big disadvantage in my book.
Ehh, agree to disagree. Again it’s great for small and simple work, not huge projects. And it loads in an instant compared to Photoshop
Unfortunately just for Windows 11 :(
Shit, gotta upgrade from XP now.
Tons of updates and features introduced over the past 20 years - I sleep.
Microsoft paint gets an update - Real shit?!
I have windows 11 and no issues.
Your Windows 11 install is not spying on you and trying to serve you ads any less than anyone else’s. You have the issues, you just don’t mind them.
Windows 11 is my friend. Windows 11 would never hurt me. Windows 11 what are you doing with that gun?!
Noooooo. Don’t do it windows 11!
Technically, if you don’t mind, it’s not an issue to you, and thus you don’t have an issue.
This is also true when comparing neurodivergent versus disabilities.
You FOSS guys are insufferable.
Ignorance is bliss, friend.
But think of the circlejerk.
Is it a love circlejerk or a hate circlejerk
Yes
FOMO circlejerk
I switched to Paint.NET ages ago
Does it have layers?
Yes it was made to be like MSPaint on steroids
Sweeeeet
yes
Sorry, still not “upgrading” to Windows 11
You can upgrade to linux instead !
That’s my plan when Win10 gets too old. I’ve run Linux before (although not as my daily driver) so the only thing worrying me is choosing which distro…
Go with fedora
Onions have layers. Ogres have layers.
What about Paint?

Gimp gimp gimp
Gimp rocks. It sucks they’re constantly getting curb stomped by Adobe’s legal team.
I’m now curious about this but can’t find anything. Please help.
They have a lot of trouble creating tools that aren’t patented by Adobe/ photoshop so they have to use loop holes to get them out. It often leads to the UI complaints people have. It’s not really note worthy, but legally they can’t copy and paste the structure of photoshop, even though they’re a lot like them. So their software tends to be unintuitive. If that makes sense. It’s mostly the tool names and the UI.
It’s specifically the tools that were created by Adobe that take a while to get implemented into GIMP. If someone makes a tool in a FOSS program, it’s an open playing field. Sadly, they’re mostly copying Adobe/ photoshop so they run into potential legal issues.
Gimp also struggles with layer/image fidelity, but that’s more of a resources thing.
Imagine if Microsoft had sued all the other browsers that copied features of internet explorer.

Sometime later … “Gimp does not have a tool for drawing lines or curves but one way to create a straight line effect is hold down shift when…”
looks at camera
I used Gimp about 15 years ago and I reached out to a guy who worked on Attack of the Show asking him for any tips on how to use Gimp. Surprisingly he responded to me and told me something along the lines of, “Dude, fuck that, just pirate Photoshop.” I never looked back.
Photo editing is sadly one of the few areas where FOSS is still massively behind.
Circle tool when?
But in all seriousness, I am super excited for the future of Gimp. I feel like 3.0 going to be a turning point for rhe software, sort of like Blender had with 2.8.
I feel like people have been anxiously awaiting gimp 3 since I was in highschool and I’m 30
Or the high seas 🏴☠️
What’s the original comic?
Waiting for kolourpaint to have layers too
they could make like kwrite, where they take kate and remove some funcions, but with krita, couldn’t this make easier to develop?
Too 40 years lol
