The sexual assault of a Kuki mother and daughter duo, who were stripped naked and paraded while being groped and molested by a mob of men in Manipur, is the latest example of that.

The video footage showing the women weeping, wincing in pain and begging their attackers to show some mercy is disturbing to watch.

The fact that the first arrest has been made only after the outrage in the case that happened 78 days ago and was reported to the police more than two months back doesn’t inspire much confidence in the administration - more so since many of the men are clearly identifiable in the footage.

    […]

“The gang rape of the women happened after the village was burnt down and two men - one middle-aged and another a teenager - were beaten to death by the mob,” the ITLF said.

Police said that the incident took place on 4 May and that a case of abduction and gang rape and murder had been registered in Thoubal district.

What the fuck? What the fuck? What the fuck?!

They really buried the damn lede here - those two women weren’t just publicly humiliated, they were gang raped. Ffs.

That headline makes it seem like something that was just horribly humiliating, not like the damn horror show it was.

    • Even the Indian media are being causiols on the reporting. Both the killings and the rape are reported as “alleged” either because of lack of evidence or they want to control the spread of the news further.

It is odd that they can’t verify both allegations by the victim after nearly two months.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said the incident had “shamed India” and that “no guilty will be spared”.

And you can believe him because of the great job he did with the Gujarat riots in 2002.

I don’t see how this shames India anymore than it is already. This type of story is way too common out of India, and I won’t accept the population size as the reason. Sadly it’s one of the countries I refuse to visit and know that the culture won’t change in my lifetime

Modi, imo, has no problem with angry religiously motivated mobs, so long as it’s the Hindutva people committing the violence. He’s just making the noises the expected noises for the sake of propriety - don’t expect anything to change markedly.

Some people really have nothing to do with their lives, do they? They don’t even need racists from abroad when they can kill and discriminate against each other.
