The second the war started, my immediate reaction is “Putin is gonna drag this out till the election, and hope (read: influence the election so) that Trump wins”. Not to mention, officials in his first administration had to talk him down from leaving NATO multiple times, apparently. This whole thing was in the playbook from the get-go, imo.
