The United States is talking to Israeli officials and others about the idea of a safe passage for Gaza civilians after Israel’s air strikes following a deadly Hamas attack over the weekend, the U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Tuesday.
“We are focused on this question, there are consultations going on,” Sullivan told reporters in a White House press briefing.
Israel has battered Palestinians with deadly air strikes in Gaza after Palestinian Islamist group Hamas’ attack on Israel on Saturday that left hundreds dead.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said at least 830 Palestinians were killed and up to 4,250 wounded in Israeli air strikes on the blockaded enclave since Saturday. The enclave, only 40km (25 miles) long by 10km (6 miles) wide, is home to 2.3 million people.
This is ethnic cleansing dressed up in the clothes of protecting civilians.
If they leave, they will never be allowed back to their homeland. If they don’t leave, they must be legitimate targets for bombing. It is important to recognize that this is going to happen regardless of if it is right or not. Palestine is probably going to cease to exist in the coming months. The leaders of the western world have decided to back Israel in this conflict… This doesn’t mean it’s right. We should absolutely call it out… But this is happening.
Now we have to decide if we let the civilians live or die.
In all honesty is would be best if one side left. That would be the only way to really move forward from this and put fighting and death behind everyone. In a few decades the people who fled would have found new homes and to their children and grand children that would be thoer home land
Yup, no peoples have ever demanded to return to their homeland after more than a few decades. There are absolutely no famous cultural disporas that have ever happened.

Think they are the only ones to have claim to that area ? Know how many centuries other people’s and cultures lived in that aera.
They have a way better claim than Israel does.
Regardless of your opinion on any other aspect of it, the one currently holding the ground with armed force typically has the better claim since they can enforce it.
That’s not having a better claim, that’s supporting a worse claim through violence.
…safe passage to where?
Well it removes the “Palestinians are in an open air prison” arguement. Also gives armed forces less places to hide and if they choose to wipe out Hamas they can pull the “anyone who stays is a combatant” card.
There are civilians on both sides who just want to exist and get out of conflict - they need a chance.
TBA how well it goes.
Yeah, the problem is, how do you prevent Hamas militants from using these channels? It’s not like anyone could expect them to abide by an agreement to not abuse a humanitarian program like that.
You probably cant stop Hamas from using these channels if they want out. We still have to try and provide safe passage for civilans.
Then the question becomes, safe passage to where? Israel isn’t going to take them, neither is Egypt
West bank maybe?
Jordan might be willing to take some since they aren’t WB refugees, KSA could potentially be talked into taking some, MBS would appreciate some demographic weight to press against the Wahhabis as he gets more aggressive about shirking them.
At this point, migrating them to the west bank and then just closing off the borders with Palestine would probably be best. Pull back the Israeli settlers, give Palestine any lands that are majority Palestinians, and just shut off contact with them. The two sides aren’t going to come to a unified living situation in the next 100 years, so giving them plenty of space to be their own nation and treating them like any other nation would be best.
Pull back the Israeli settlers
Here’s where your plan falls apart. The settlers aren’t a hardline third party causing trouble for the government, they’re part of an intentional Israeli policy. They want them there, for the entire purpose of calling those areas “not Palestine”.
None of the Arab countries have really wanted Palestinian refugees historically. It’s been a big issue, and what refugees they have accepted were mistreated historically
You can’t, and its an unfortunate part of modern warfare - basic humanitarian actions that law-abiding states follow are not usually something op-for will also follow and it is a disadvantage. That does not mean we can’t do it, only it is a cost our humanity demands.
One historically classic method of separating combatants, is women and children are allowed to leave. Men are not. It’s not a perfect solution, but it would get the women and children out safely
In this case, it’ll essentially be signing death sentence for all the men. It’s a facet of sexism that’s rarely addressed. Happened in Ukraine, probably gonna happen here as well.
Happens in America everything there is a draft. Happens I. South Korea and a bunch of other countries. Men don’t matter to society unless they are rich
Patriarchy hurts everyone.
Dunno where you live but the usa is a matriachy.
because women and children cant be militants?
A good modified form of this is to let the women and children out, then establish a waiting facility for family reuniting, and seeking men specifically identified by the women and children.
Militants tend not to have spouses or kids to vouch for them, and if they have siblings or mothers to, said women will almost definitely be inclined towards keeping the som’bitches in line.
Last up, just screen all the men that are left and still willing to cooperate with the proceedings, by now just being willing to filter out that way is probably a sign they aren’t militants since by that point the actual militants will probably have resolved to try for a last stand somewhere they think can be fortified.
The only real logistical hurdle is keeping everyone trying to cooperate orderly and not stir crazy, and for that the best solution is just bringing in as much food as is needed, maybe set up temporary communal facilities like schools and entertainment within the vouchers’ settlement, have a clear destination picked out for any who don’t care about going back as long as they can have peace (I hear dearborn is lovely this time of year) and have an ACoE division ready to marshall plan the shit out of any rubble that’ll be left behind.
Boom, militants filtered, wannabe escapees relocated, and plenty of space made for who’s left to move back into, probably with better infrastructure now too since the ACoE will probably be laying the works down just to get their own shit in and about, let alone everyone else’s.
Turn it into a real weh antiok khosrau kinda deal, only not intended as a jab against a byzantine emperor.
A very very rough estimate for how long this would take would be just over two months to finish the “sorting” process, assuming you profess an average of 10k men every day. Which is certainly feasible with enough manpower dedicated to the effort.
Gunpowder, explosive test every one of them in combination to profiling. Israel has the tech for that. Sure, some will slip but most will be found.
I’m gonna guess Egypt.
Honestly, after this all shakes out, I think Gaza might not exist anymore. To be clear, that’s not a statement of desire - I just think that that’s a very likely outcome at this point.
Probably Egypt
This is the right answer. They’ve bombed the evacuation point they were promoting, but that’s what they were saying.
Egypt probably doesn’t want a million refugees. No country would. This is becoming WW2 all over again.
The West Bank maybe?
India
i guess thats one way to complete the conquest started in 1947
“Safe Passage” is actually the code name for the next military “aid” package.
Can you imagine if Jared fucking Kushner was still “in charge” of Israel/Palestine relations?!
Do you think he is not involved?
This is the best summary I could come up with:
WASHINGTON, Oct 10 (Reuters) - The United States is talking to Israeli officials and others about the idea of a safe passage for Gaza civilians after Israel’s air strikes following a deadly Hamas attack over the weekend, the U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Tuesday.
“We are focused on this question, there are consultations going on,” Sullivan told reporters in a White House press briefing.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said at least 830 Palestinians were killed and up to 4,250 wounded in Israeli air strikes on the blockaded enclave since Saturday.
Gazans have lived under an Israeli-led blockade for 16 years, since Hamas seized control of the territory in 2007.
Israel’s embassy in Washington said the death toll from Hamas’ weekend attacks had surpassed 1,000.
Palestinians in Gaza have said that Israeli bombardment has been heavy and feels like a new “Nakba,” the Arabic word for catastrophe that refers to the 1948 war of Israel’s creation that led to their mass dispossession.
