I no longer pick up my phone to check reddit every few minutes. I won’t be installing any mobile Lemmy apps. I can watch a movie or TV show without my phone in my hand. Best thing that could have happened for my Reddit addiction.

Something I’ve noticed is that I had basically stopped commenting on Reddit because it seemed like someone always wanted to start a fight. I don’t even generally comment about politics or controversial topics, but still it felt like I was getting rude responses doubting my stories or whatever. Now I’m more likely to take a moment to share a response.

Lemmy also has landmine topics. There are many dedicated vegans and communists, for example

And more people see everything, as there is less content, so talking positively about capitalism or meat will earn you down-votes initially (and permanently if it’s buried or actually wrong)

Maybe it’s due to population size, but I’m beginning to feel like Lemmy is a worse echo chamber than Reddit. And yes, I have noticed the landmines and people getting overly downvoted for stating simple opinions.

I’m not so sure this is the place for me anymore. I’ll stick around for now, but I may leave if something else comes along.

It’s a mix of size and the founder population who are still a significant fraction of the population

Probably accurate. That seems to have set the trend for who belongs. Of course we’d all want to keep highly objectionable material away, but I’d prefer to see some diversity of thought.

      This.

My comments on reddit either has only 1 upvote or get downvoted to hell with angry replies.
