Yea I could see that, I’m the head of IT for a location in my company and a staff of ~900 utilizes around 100 different applications at my site alone. Add up all our different apps throughout the org and that probably triples even though we’ve been attempting to standardize for nearly a decade.
Keep in mind each of our sites operates what would normally be 3-7 separate businesses with their own IT but in our world one IT runs it all. (Casino IT here)
I’d say workers are overworked more than they’re over-apped
At the bank where I’m working we have MS Teams, Webex, Skype and Symphony for chat and videoconferencing. They’re paying for all of them + a bunch of other useless software licenses, but at the same time the top management is still wondering how they can reduce costs 🤔
Can I have Visual Assist to code faster and better?
No it’s too expensive.
Don’t you know that the only way we can afford that is to first fire a few people? smh
And only useful workers, right?
Similar situation here for the last couple years with chat and meeting apps, plus file store app, document app, etc. We are finally ditching everything extraneous. Can’t happen soon enough. Having to check 4 different apps for missed messages is insane.
I get messages in voicemail, email, Salesforce, Slack, Jira, Dynamics, and Teams. It’s a little much. I choose to prioritize Salesforce, email and Jira. Slack when I think about it. Dynamics and Teams can reach out to me in email if it’s important. I never check voicemail.
We did a project a while back where it was voted to keep announcements and info to the intranet page. This has since slipped up a bit… With more and more managers chosing their own approach
Still, we just have email, slack, teams and our itsm tool of course. Is preferably drop teams, but it’s impossible to do so in a Ms ecosystem. Everyone thankfully uses slack primarily though.
FUCK teams, holy shit they must try to make it trash. It’s slow as fuck and if you leave it open on a mac at least it will just stop working at some point and need a restart. The fuckin iOS app can’t edit messages yet but I can delete them (sometimes). If you try to use the quick share feature it works unless you’re trying to share something from iOS to yourself in which case the screen comes up but the send button is perma greyed out
I could go on and on, FUCK MS TEAMS
mac
Yeah it’s for people working though?
It slows the fuck outta my pc as well. Netskope, and a billion other monitoring and control software like fuck off I actually red that processing power/resources. What a fuckin ridiculous waste
My chat window is nearly always in the background and on mute. The only notifications I get are for meetings. Emailing me is a surefire way for it to get seen at the beginning or end of a workday.
To move past this, business leaders must closely examine the pain points of how their employees connect in hybrid and remote work environments so we can improve the clarity and quality of communication in our organizations.
“Business leaders” don’t give a rats ass. Whatever ticks the boxes is good for them. You could present them with a heap of dog shit that communicates to you by having the smell be blown at you. If it ticks the boxes, they’ll buy it.
