Well there are no operating systems that you can install and forget, unless they never plan to go online with the machine. They all need updating which can be set automatically. The only problem is if it requires manual intervention, sometimes updates don’t go as planned, then a roll-back might be necessary. They could try an immutable linux distribution if they are worried about screwing up their installs or something. Fedora kinoite may be their thing, or Bazzite which is based on that.

62·1 year agoWhen you install Bazzite you select the video card you are using and it will give you the drivers needed for that card.

201·1 year agoI’m not in the market for a new car, but how about features that enhance operator focus, and reduce blind-spots. Less distractions.
I think i’ll be heading back to Pop!_OS for my main rig. While i like Bazzite, i can’t get VR to function on it, or get my 5.1 surround sound system working. I think it’s great for a hand held, but not for a main rig.
The software itself does not harm anyone, considering it is free software and nobody has to contribute money to use it, i don’t care. If you feel so outraged by it, fork the software and develop your own version. At least with free software you have that option, as opposed to proprietary software where you have no option.
I’m not using Hyperland personally, but i’m not opposed to people using it.

3·1 year agoPop_OS! is a decent OS, been using it for a few years on my living room PC. On my gaming rig i been using Bazzite which i like where it’s going, love kde, but i can’t get surround sound working and for the life of me can’t figure out how to fix it. Might move on to another distribution, but we’ll see.
Startpage is owned by an adtech company, i don’t trust them.

3·1 year agoThe only thing that matters is creating value for the share-holder (this is how public corporations work). If you can convince the share-holders that AI can perform the job better than executives, they will demand executives and their board of directors be replaced on the spot. Share-holders care about one thing, maximizing returns on investment. They will never favour the average employee as they see them as red numbers on the balance sheet. All the employees need to do is buy up all the shares and they can make this happen. Pretty unlikely scenario unfortunately, but one can dream.

[moved to piefed] movies@lemm.ee•From Cleaner Bathrooms to Fewer Trailers, 5 Movie Theater Owners on Ways to Bring Audiences Back to CinemasEnglish
14·1 year agoIt’s been 2 or more years since i went to a movie theater. Even then it was at most twice a year if that before. Movie theaters suck, too many commercials, too dirty, too expensive food, and the annoyance of audiences. At home i have a big projector, more comfortable movie chairs, and cheaper food i prepare, and no annoying audience members. What’s in it for me to return? The movies coming out these days are pretty boring, why not just stay home, watch movies there? Like the drive-in theater, this venue perhaps has seen it’s day and time to move on.
