If everyone left a car length in front of them then they could all start accelerating at the same time and more cars will get through.

1·9 months agoI’m looking into getting some kind of cold storage just in case my drive fails. It’s a 1.5 TB drive but I only have about 50gb on it right now.

2·9 months agoWhich cloud storage do you recommend? I’m using syncthing on my phone to a separate HDD on my PC as well as rsync my home partition nightly from my home folder to that HDD.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Why does Signal want a phone number to register if it's supposedly privacy first?English
4·11 months agoI got one one time, been using it for years. Fuckin’ weird to try on people who are privacy and security conscious. My guess is that they were attempting to see what numbers are using signal in the first place if someone responds with a “fuck off” then the spammer knows they use signal.

2·11 months agoI work in manufacturing and we have multiple engineers on staff. I’m not really sure why because we should have competent maintenance people doing those jobs instead. They have zero trouble shooting skill. The first thing they do is open their laptops. They don’t physically look at anything to try to figure out issues. They spend hours trying to figure out basic problems, it’s ridiculous. At the last place I worked operators would be fixing most of these things.

1·11 months agoI’m actually now having the issue when I install things with wine. The text on the header on top of the window is normal, but the installer is tiny. Not a huge issue, just weird. Games are mostly fine when I run them so no big deal.

1·11 months agoA lot of people use shopify and then have the orders fulfilled by one of the many print on demand services. So once the store is set up then it’s basically on auto pilot as far as I can tell.
I’ve never done it before, but they make it pretty easy to set up a store and collect payments.
Shopify is a Canadian company so that isn’t an issue in the current political climate, but I’m unaware of any other issues people might have with the company.

1·11 months agoThat makes sense. You could always set up a simple print to order site and slap the Lemmy mouse on a bunch of stuff. I’d definitely buy something.

3·11 months agoI had made the suggestion to them that they could start offering some kind of managed hosting services for people running instances. I have a couple of instances running with a hosting provider. If I could have them running with the support of the devs then that would be awesome.

I do this to people who are weaving around traffic and cut me off and we’re both at the same light anyway. so I honk the moment the light turns green just to be a dick.
