Buy European@feddit.uk•looking for good european water flossersEnglish
4·7 months agoHad one of these. Bought it “used”, but it was completely new and still in the original box. It lasted less than two years until it just randomly stopped working. Wasn’t impressed.
IMO it was fine while it still worked. However, my dentist, told me it didn’t work as well as actual floss and a tiny brush.

Science@mander.xyz•Marathon Fusion claims it can turn mercury into gold while creating clean energyEnglish
71·8 months agoSounds great. I can’t wait for the price of gold to crash. There are so many applications that would benefit from having a cheap chemically inert metal. Also, the electrical conductivity is pretty amazing, so I don’t think the demand for gold is going down any time soon.
As it stands, gold is way too expensive, and we’ve had to come up with all sorts of exotic alternatives to it. The obvious choice has been sitting in front of our noses all this time, but price has prevented us from actually using it very much.

4·8 months agoOh ok. Tanks for the clarification.
Anyway, that’s still about mach 23, so a lot more than the planned speed.

Buy European@feddit.uk•ESA develops hydrogen hypersonic aircraft with Mach 5English
81·8 months agoThe plan is for the hydrogen-powered aircraft to take off like an airplane and then reach an orbit around the earth like a rocket.
Just for reference, the escape speed is 11.186 km/s or approximately mach 33.
The hypersonic aircraft equipped with such a propulsion system could make ESA’s vision of developing a horizontal take-off spacecraft a reality.
Interesting, but I see this as only as a step in that direction, not the final product that actually stays in orbit. If it can reach whatever altitude you call space, it certainly won’t stay there on its own. With speed like that, it’s just going to drop like a plane.

43·8 months agoSome adventurous people intentionally want to go to North Korea too, so I guess the same kind of crowd will be visiting USA in the future. Can you go through customs with a pencil in your pocket without being sent to a torture camp? Only one way to find out.

Buy European@feddit.uk•US startup Lyten to take over Northvolt's energy storage systems factory in PolandEnglish
2·8 months agoYea, that’s true. I can imagine that BYD or CATL might be interested in buying it, but that would violate the self sufficiency goals. I wonder if you could use EU funding for a project like this. After all, that facility alone plays a pretty important part in the plan to meet the recycling goals.

1·9 months agoLOL yeah.
But seriously though, ads are deigned so that companies find more customers. Who cares what the customers want, need or buy. As long as the company gets the money, it’s ad money well spent.

3·9 months agoThat observation doesn’t surprise me, since about 10% of the population is gay. Other types of queer people are a significantly smaller minority.
Also, the term queer just rolls off the tongue much easier than an acronym that never seems to be inclusive enough. I like this word better than any of the acronyms, but I can totally see why some people don’t want to be called queer.

36·9 months agoIgnore the big price label you see on bread, coffee and other food items. Look for the small number in the corner that says €/kg. That’s the only number that really matters in the long run.
If you have only 15 € in your pocket, and you need to survive till the end of the month, this tip might not be very helpful, since you also need to be aware of the sum you pay at the checkout.

7·10 months agoIt should be 1 week + a few hours, so they the gum appears in the mouth when the person is sleeping. This way, they might wake up in the middle of the night because of the horrible taste in their mouth. Ideally though, they would wake up in the morning and find that there’s a sticky gum in their hair.
