I would just use my desktop for that use case. There’s still a small minority of games that just don’t work via proton but it’s really a minority.

I’ve also seen a handful of games with linux builds that just don’t run properly because they update the game but don’t do enough QA to the linux build or simply don’t put resources towards linux issues to the same degree that windows gets.

A handful of games need slight nudges one way or another but overwhelmingly it just works. Way better than it was just a few years ago.

Honestly, i’m really not that far off as-is. Steam Deck already runs most of my library, it’s just the games that don’t work with a controller that are a problem.

Musk can die in a fire, but self driving car tech seems to be vastly safer than human drivers when you do apples to apples comparisons. It’s like wearing a seatbelt, you certainly don’t need to have one to go from point A to point B, but you’re definitely safer with it - even if you are giving up a little control. If you can’t win an election legitimately because the educated see through your bullshit, do illegal things that cannot be tracked or that is “legal” just despicable, like deregister non-republican voters and make sure your planted vote counters make sure they all seem to show up R or aren’t counted because they are “fraudulent” - because the watchers are all your people there’s nothing to be done to challenge it.

these are the same people who have been accusing every single democrat ever of fraudulent things by any means necessary. They’ve wanted to impeach biden for “fraud” but can’t find any wrongdoing. They are also the people who attempted to create fake electoral votes to seize power after losing the popular vote.

It’s pretty sad the legal system is bought and paid for by billionaires who have no interest in allowing the courts to actually follow the law unless it results in lower taxes and higher subsidies for them. If the judges actually did their jobs a lot more people would be in jail for election interference.

If anything it called out how toxic ignorance and stupidity can be in the presence of someone who just wants to do the right thing. Already axed prime, I don’t even miss the expedited delivery. Most of the stuff I want immediately walmart sells with same day shipping and no extra cost anyway (like most big box stores) - announcing adding ads to prime video made me cancel the same day, and my sub ran out just as they rolled out the ads.

Disney recently boned me out of account sharing, so my plex server is getting pimped out. $1000 buy gets you substantial NAS storage for 6-7 years. That’s ~$14/mo if you replace nothing for 6 years. By the time drives start dying the sizes double and you can expand your raid as they die off one by one.

Monthly active users would be a better statistic to track imo. That gives you a real idea as to how big the community is.

Anecdotally, content wise does seem better than a few months ago. Unfortunately lots of it seems to be highly polarizing and hateful stuff when you look at all communities. Othering seems to be as strong as ever, if not stronger. Probably because hate groups can just setup their own instances or take over parts of existing ones without much blowback like they would get on other sites.

The gain is really next to nothing in the 2 months shown in this graph. It goes from ~1,456,000 to 1,468,000… which is a 00.8% increase, less than 1%.

BFD, it’s not like they banned his account, just one gimped extension that doesn’t do the whole ad blocking experience and even then only because he didn’t do anything to try and reverse it. Then after it’s restored he throws his tantrum and removes it.

With all the extensions out there false positive detections of malicious apps are going to happen. Nobody has unlimited resources to hire boatloads of devs to review every single line of code of every extension for every update done. That’s an insane expectation.

We’ve never had real communism.

I don’t think human nature will allow for true communism at scale. Like all political organizations beyond a handful of people, corruption is de facto present and completely at odds with the theory.

People can swear up and down that it’s doable but I truly don’t think it could ever be by humans. We are too selfish.

I mean, the argument that communism is slavery to the state is a real and valid argument as of 2024.

It’s not like capitalism is any less a form of slavery, except instead of stealing from everybody to give to everybody it steals from everybody and gives it all to insurance companies and other businesses benefiting oligarchs. The whole system is slavery under another name, work for the luxury of having a place to sleep at night so that your owner can live a comfortable life. Slavery to many masters who use your body for their gains.

There’s not going to be a system that you’re not a slave to though, unless we somehow find a way to trivially convert matter to energy and vice versa and build a utopia where machines do everything for us… and we all share the rewards.
