This right here. For example I’m rolling my eyes at people replacing their Kindles posthaste now. If it still works, it’s a great piece of hardware and replacing it now for the sake of changing the brand only creates more waste. A Kindle one already owns is more green and anti-capitalistic than whatever replacement one might get. It’s borderline virtue signalling.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Impulse buys are bad, we all know, but what was an impulse buy that proven to be a really good decision to you?
29·1 year agoA cheap Chinese bluetooth speaker. I bought it due to its great price without any specific idea how to utilize it. Years later I ended up in relatively cramped conditions without the hi-fi equipment I used previously, using this bluetooth speaker as my main audio device for long months.

Reddit@lemmy.world•On Reddit, if you talk ill of fascists a bot will ban your account permanently.
15·1 year agoWhile I agree with you in general, let’s not pretend the implication isn’t obvious. Reddit just doesn’t like that implication, and that’s telling us a lot about Reddit.
It proxies nothing, it literally redirects your browser to Google.
This is precisely the sort of mistake an LLM wouldn’t make.

2·1 year agoSame. Most news sites treating this change as a “Kindle issue” is borderline disinformation. This is an “Amazon issue”. Kindle the device isn’t changing and there is no reason to switch if you already own one (just please don’t buy a new one).

“And what’s your explanation for the existence of FtM trans, then? What’s their sinister ulterior motive?” is a question they don’t have the answer to, so they straight up pretend FtM doesn’t exist.
I mean, in their eyes that would be a woman rising to the superior caste of men for no good reason. We can’t have that either!

28·1 year agoFor what it’s worth, Eurogamer itself called the first game bigoted and refused to rate it. It’s really a strange case.
Personally I see no benefit in having them in the same application.

I think their heart is in the right place but they didn’t think it through. The way I understand virtue signalling, it needs to include intentional deception.
