costco being anti union is news to me. especially since they are very loudly not dropping their dei program.

it no longer matters if the executive branch can just ignore the judiciary. the only question is what mechanism does the judiciary have to enforce it’s order since the federal marshals are all part of the executive branch?

hit us harder. this is what the commonwealth obviously wants despite jefferson (louisville) and fayette (lexington) counties knowing better.

ctkatz@lemmy.mlto News@lemmy.world•Kennedy Jr backtracks and says US measles outbreak is now a ‘top priority’ for health department8·4 months agoremember back in elementary school and you thought $100 was a lot of money but when you got older you realized that $100 wasn’t a whole lot? I see the same thing here, except that those people who think that’s a lot of doses for this situation probably have a 7th or 8th grade understanding of, well, everything but they’re older than 50.
there needs to be at a minimum 500,000 doses for west texas.

are animated lights practical? no. I actually think they’re more of a distraction. I need several use cases of where animated lights other than at car start up play an actual useful role in operating the vehicle.
car companies are going away from the practical and into the cool factor and I don’t think it’s a good thing. those huge car fins on caddys looked cool but provided absolutely no practical functionality (I even believe that studies showed it made them less safe. disclosure: I’m pulling this out of my rear end but I think it’s true).
ctkatz@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Cars will need fewer screens and more buttons to earn a 5-star safety rating in Europe | Euro NCAP will introduce new testing rules in 2026 requiring physical controls for the highest safety scoreEnglish5·4 months agooh I agree. the thing is elon has explicitly said that he doesn’t want a bunch of knobs in his cars and they should only have a central control screen to run everything. even the backup shift device is a touch sensor somewhere around the rear view iirc (never driven one nor do I want to). I essence, an entire continent is telling one company explicitly that your cars are not the safest on the road no matter what you claim. that’s going to be a massive hit on the company’s reputation and value and it couldn’t happen to a more deserving induhvidual.

I actually stopped using any new version once bittorrent bought it.
- iphones are the first recognized “smartphone”.
- apple is an american company.
- apple has a massive fanbase that is completely dedicated to apple and all their products.
i’m not sure what the global usage of apple products is, but i think here it’s probably a lot higher than in other places. throw in the fact that there’s only one device capable of (legally) running apple’s mobile software, and there you have it.
also, their advertising didn’t hurt either. no one on the android side had the kind of advertising they did until maybe 6 or 7 years later and by that time you were probably already well established in the iphone ecosystem.

ctkatz@lemmy.mlto News@lemmy.world•Grand jury recommends Alabama police department be 'immediately abolished'27·5 months agoif I remember my geography correctly cullman county is north of jefferson county (birmingham) on I 65. I’ve got family from birmingham, so to me it’s simply amazing that a rural white county decided to indict their white police force and recommend to completely disband it because of the corruption.
if a bunch of white people can do that with no black people involved in any way on either side, that police force must have been doing some seriously heinous shit.
there’s anti union as in “we think they’re a nuisance but we are tolerating them” and anti union as in “we are going to do everything in our power, legally and otherwise to make sure a union does not form or actively work to break the union that is in existence now”, companies like amazon and walmart and starbucks. if costco is anti union they are definitely not the second from what I’ve seen.
