hera@feddit.ukto Open Source@lemmy.ml•What projects does the opensource world lackEnglish20·3 months agoA printer or printer firmware. There was a discussion about this elsewhere on lemmy, of course this would be difficult and expensive but it would be very cool
hera@feddit.ukOPto Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Mixxx accepted for Google Summer of Code 2025, Get InvolvedEnglish3·3 months agoThat’s quite surprising, the stable builds were always very stable for me. I used to DJ several times a month in public for 4-6 hours at a time and only had a problem when I tried to run beta builds, which was admittedly a stupid idea.
hera@feddit.ukto Technology@lemmy.world•~~Brother accused of locking down third-party printer ink cartridges via forced firmware updates, removing older firmware versions from support portals~~ [see comments]English9·3 months agoIt’s really surprising this doesn’t already exist. It’s such a hated piece of tech, I would have thought someome would have thought they could do better! I don’t know enough to do it myself but I’d sure as hell support a project to do it!
hera@feddit.ukto Technology@lemmy.world•Oscar-winning animated film 'Flow' created entirely with free and open-source software BlenderEnglish12·3 months agoIncredible to see how far blender has come. I remember using it over ten years when I was trying to get off pirated software (3ds max), while it’s still recognisable the capability has exploded

hera@feddit.ukto Open Source@lemmy.ml•EA just open-sourced some more Command & Conquer games including Generals and RenegadeEnglish14·3 months agoThis is incredible news. So sad to see tiberian Sun isn’t there though!

hera@feddit.ukto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the most infuriating "is not a big deal" you have ever heard?English5·3 months agoSounds like you were the odd one out, everyone I knew had plenty of VHS and DVD. They were a very common gift also
hera@feddit.ukto Technology@lemmy.world•BlackBerry's iconic keyboard patent has expiredEnglish2·3 months agoI’m 40% dolomite
hera@feddit.ukto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the last truly innovative thing you witnessed?English3·3 months agoI think that is downplaying it, while mobile devices caused the major boom in access, the Internet was already prolific before
hera@feddit.ukto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the last truly innovative thing you witnessed?English17·3 months agoThe Internet has changed almost every aspect of daily life, I don’t see why you don’t think it is as innovative as the invention of the car.
hera@feddit.ukto Europe@feddit.org•German trains are less punctual than Britain’s ‘broken’ railwaysEnglish9·3 months agoLet’s not use the quality of other rail networks to act as if ours isn’t so bad
hera@feddit.ukto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What can I actually do with 64 GB or RAM?English6·3 months agoWow, I’ve got more than that pinned
I don’t think you understand how the redshift app works then? It’s not meant to stop bright lights, it is meant to remove blue light to mimic the light of evenings
hera@feddit.ukto Linux@lemmy.ml•Redshift isn't maintained anymore. what to use?English10·3 months agoDefinitely disagree, dark mode doesn’t change the temperature of other things you are viewing such as images and video
The issue is that AI never says no or tells you that your question is not valid
hera@feddit.ukto Technology@lemmy.world•Give permission. Don't give permission. They know where you are anywayEnglish572·4 months agoAll HTTP requests include your ip address, you don’t “consent” to giving it to anybody. You can geolocate somebody based on ip address but it won’t be very accurate
hera@feddit.ukto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could improve PeerTube, what would you improve?English2·4 months agoNever heard of MBone, thanks for sharing. I think the fact that there is currently basically one successful video streaming service is indicative of how hard it is to run one. The bandwidth and performance it takes is huge, so unless a federated service is a paid-for service or receives huge donations there are never going to be enough resources to anywhere near match the performance of YouTube.
I’m the opposite! I love the feeling of it
