I’d love it that if I blocked someone, I don’t see their messages when I check notifications. Also, I am begging for Lemmy to be the first social media platform, to shroud your profile optionally without blocking.

I felt like and always did, about how social media is one gigantic misleading bloat of a sham. We’ve already perfected communication, you cannot get any better than instant messaging and video calling. The only improvements needing to be made is just better bitrate and whatever small technical steps needed.
But in general? Social Media is just overinflated. It overcomplicates communication. And all that social media is, is one gigantic data farm that we all contributed to, because social media was touted as a thing that was going to change the world, the next big thing. Well, it was right in the beginning but it took us too long to have seen the detrimental effects it has on the world now.
Then again, it’s like, we’ve already had social media in it’s simplicity. So okay, you didn’t get together with your favorite niche group in instant messaging. However, there were things like MSN Groups back in the 2000s. There were Yahoo! Groups too. So it’s like, what exactly did Facebook, Instagram, Twitter .etc really bring? Nothing that you couldn’t do two decades ago!
The only net benefit of social media at all anymore is to reach everyone globally and that’s about all of the only net positive I can think of social media’s purpose anymore. Other than that, it’s corporate’s playground.
H.W Bush, W. Bush, Trump .etc are the symptoms of everything Reagan and maybe even further back to Nixon have established.
Gone are the days where America had dignity when Roosevelt was president, John Kennedy was president and Bill Clinton (pre scandal) was president.
And I’m strangely okay with this.
If the idiots of the masses are going to follow individual idiots on one platform. Keep them there. Things like Mastodon and the concept of the fediverse is just too much for their little one-dimensional brains to handle.
I lived there for 3 years and I tried voting against every Republican candidate possible. I was glad to see the governorship flip, but everything else is a head scratcher. Then I learned that McConnell won his like, 7th fucking term there? All the while, he has made it abundantly clear, that he will not improve and not serve the interests of the American people in which his position is to serve to. And no other candidate has the balls even, to challenge his post which is even more shitty.
It’s not like we wanted them in the first place. America is overdue, for younger and more aware candidates who can get the job done swifter. No longer relying on walking corpses with snails for brains and the attention span of a sloth. The only reason we’re still dealing with them is because the older voterbase, still wants them because that’s the only connection they have. Which is funny enough, not even old politicians care about their peers.
Another obligatory ‘why the fuck are you still on there, go and leave’ comment here.
They mind as well just come out and say it;
“I SUPPORT PEDOPHILES!”
“I SUPPORT ANTI-LGBTQ! WE’RE TAKING THIS COUNTRY BACK!”
I mean, come on guys, if you’re going to be this stupidly blunt about your stances, go all the way. I’m sure it’ll go over smoothly. /s
You know, I want this to happen. Because, I like to see stupid ideas blow up in the faces of the idiots who think things like these are what’s best for the world.
And maybe I hope the originator meets their end when one of these decides to kill him.
I’m just as annoyed at the name. Car Thing? They fucking call it ‘Car Thing’? Stupid fucks.
Thank you. At least you care about issues like these.
Unlike Reddit that allows alts to be made in seconds then wonder why it’s got a bot/toxicity/troll problem.
As much as it occasionally annoys me for people to go ga-ga over bigfoot or nessie or UFOs, I would trade that in exchange for current conspiracy theories where people are rampantly aggressive to try and prove their conspiracy theories right. We’re talking anti-vaxxers, QAnon .etc
Political conspiracy shit is five times more aggravating.
I saw a UFO a few times this week. Too bad I can’t fucking hold a camera to save my life so I’ll just juggle it and make do with some sneaky editing while saying nothing is edited.
“No child left behind!, no child left behind. Oh really? It wasn’t long ago you were talking about giving children a head start. Head Start-Left Behind. Someone’s losing fucking ground here.” - George Carlin
At this point, everyone is breaking the law online already. It’s just a matter of the level.
This will not do anything. Kids are typically dumb online, adventurous, but dumb online who’ll do dumb things in unpredictable fashions. It’s like putting all of those plug covers to make sure children don’t pull them off, except they will and do, prompting them to curiously stick a fork into the socket.
That senator is more concerned about what’s online for kids, than how Republicans are actively pushing kids to work jobs that are unsafe for them. Might want to re-evaluate your priorities, dude.
Don’t even get me started how kids have long been able to lie about their age online to get to adulterated content.
“Here, I just want a space where we can just talk about the idea of talking about what we would like to talk about!”
It’s sad that we’re making a big damn deal out of - straws. I don’t drink anything out with straws and the only times I do is if I’m at a restaurant and they use plastic.
I hear you there. The last full time involvement of participating on Reddit for me was like a couple months ago. I couldn’t complain about my job anymore, like everyone else that normally complains about their jobs, without getting downvoted to oblivion over it. Why? Because “dats what reddit does!” is pretty much the only logic that it can boil down to when it comes to Reddit - it’s because that’s their bastardized logic and they happily carry it out. Just so anybody they don’t like, is discouraged from participating.
Everyone turns everything into an unnecessary debate because people want to sound smarter than they really are.
The only way that I can see that platform being shut down, is if it is swamped with lawsuits. The thing with Musk is that he can just waive them all away with money. There would have to be other things to factor in to break down the platform.
It’d have to be swamped with so much controversy that it’d have to force some governmental body’s hand to take it down.
