297·8 months agoThough this is about Lemmy.world I think sh.itjust.works has a similarly sad story.
We had a vote for the banner when sh.itjust.works started where a bunch of artist came forward with art for the banner and some AI guys came in with art as well. This was clearly stated by the AI guys, with no trickery. The community voted in the agora to reject the art of its users in favour of this stable diffusion slop.
I think you can tell I dispise AI art. The reason for it here though is that the community voted for it over real artists time, dedication, and love for the community.
If someone really wanted to change it though one could create a discussion post in the agora, our community voting community, to have it changed. They’d likely need to provide new art which, as an artist, I’m unwilling to do. The community has shown it cares little for the time, effort, and skill involved so somebody with an hour and stable diffusion would win out over the multi-day process of making something meaningful

Do not do that.
Don’t let the AI near your database and do not run the SQL code it writes.
Please. No.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I swapped the entire school computers to linux mintEnglish
5·11 months agoYoo that’s wild man doing gods (Richard Stallman) work here man.
Great initiative nonetheless. Compared to 8 this much more secure and for programming it’s a great choice too. Bringing more life out of some old PCs, saving a school money, and forcing some kids to get creative in order to play Roblox.
As for is it ready fr this application, programming, it has been for a while. For general, especially web based, applications it absolutely is. Of course, there are quite few things were it’s just not but for the most part Linux is a great choice.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does anyone else wish that Lemmy had Post Analytics like Reddit's Post Insights?English
11·11 months agoYeah but I’m glad they’re not here.
I liked this stats but don’t like that I liked them. I shouldn’t feel so happy at number go up. Lemmy is way less adictive for me and I’m happy with it
Good question though
You can use wsl

Books@lemmy.ml•Cosmere: Can I skip elantris? I kinda want to.English
2·11 months agoOh hey, been a bit but I’m glad you came back to this. I honestly really liked the book. Very rushed ending though I’d argue. I like a lot of what they did with the mercenaries and with nightblood along with the general lore. Everything with lightsong and blushweaver was great too but at times the book dwadled around and when it came to it, answers seemed to just be tossed together and regirgatated (can’t spell that shit). Lightning always kept me entertained though.
I know that’s a lot of complaining but other than the end the book was very good. It is his style to have everythingfall together at the end it seems but the other four books I’ve read by him seem much more-like a bunch of pieces falling into place and a few things blowing up spectacularly than this one which felt like “and then it turned out some people are bad and the others are good. Here’s why it all happened and some lore too. They also fight. But wait? Happily ever after too.”
I don’t regret reading it at all though. All three stories were great in their own right and the world is certainly my favourite. The system is so interesting along with the culture. I hope he revisits it.
God, sorry for the novella, but you did make the mistake of asking me about a book. You fool.
Took a break but now I’m 400 pages into way of kings BTW. Liking it a lot so far.

Books@lemmy.ml•The worst part about finishing a book is trying to decide what to read next. It sometimes takes me DAYS to decide on something to read. Anyone else?English
6·1 year agoAbsolutely. Which is why I like medium sized series of books that way the next book is usually clear, but I don’t have the secondary issue of never feeling like I’m “done” you get with long series.
Start looking when you get to the last book and by the time you’re through you can hop right in
This has strong kingdom of loathing vibes

Programming@programming.dev•Microsoft is making TypeScript 10x faster with native implementation in GoEnglish
54·1 year agoEh, not entirely. Typescript will build faster and the text editor can parse it quicker but once it hits the browser no speed is gained. It’s kinda stated in the article but it dances around it quite well I wouldn’t blame you for missing it.
This just makes transpilation quicker along with some other benefits while working with it in editor. It’s still just JavaScript in the end this just gets it there quicker. Still very cool though.

You’ll need a mod to accept this and by my understanding the mods are all very, very pro AI and unlikely to care. At best, they allow AI art in the competition, it floods the submissions earlier than anyone cam draw, and gets attention quicker thus more votes. Hope the best though.
Fairest way would be the call to action followed by another post to vote on submissions
