xyguy@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many people are only still alive because they don't want their suicide hurting others as much as they hurt every day?English25·5 months agoBeen there. Reason I didnt is because other people would bear the shit if I did. Im in a much better place at the moment but I felt exactly the way ypu do about the world.
There is a fuckload of propaganda, and a lot of it is meant to make you lose hope at ever seeing the system change. That makes the opinion that things can and might improve and you are going to be a part of it, no matter how small the most radical thing of all.
Genuinely what helped me through it was volunteering. Everything is shit wall to wall BUT this one tiny thing is better than it was because of me. Its a sustaining feeling for sure.
Keep hanging in there for the ones you love, and the ones that love you.
Ok have it your way. No more copyright strikes on YouTube then. And you should open source all the code that Google has written across the board.
We cant let copyright get in the way of innovation.

xyguy@startrek.websiteto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•In case you've ever wondered why the Windows control panel was so awful...English2·8 months agoRight. Just make a super super good compatibility layer so whatever you have next will be compatible and give up on Windows proper. They can call it Windows 360.
xyguy@startrek.websiteto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•In case you've ever wondered why the Windows control panel was so awful...English7·8 months agoHonestly, it seems like it would be easier to contribute Dev time to WINE and just start all over with a new incompatible version of Windows.
I love that one too! Though my fave is Avianos. I’d love to see a UFO 50 more where they do some follow ups of some of these. Or open up modding or something.
If anyone wants to know, the reason that happens is because spiders move their legs with a hydraulic system and once they are dead the pressure gets released and they revert to their “default” state.

xyguy@startrek.websiteto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Can anyone name some mysteries in stories where the answer ended up delivering and was better than the mystery itself?English12·1 year agoId say quite a few Twilight Zone episodes had endings that were better than the mystery. But of course, there were just as many episodes where the opposite was true.

I really think the reason people aren’t getting electric cars is because they are all 20k more than the equivalent mid-size SUV and there are never any for people to test drive on a lot. At least not in my area.
xyguy@startrek.websiteto Technology@lemmy.world•Why are so many leaders in tech evil?English2·1 year agoMy thought is that these people think that their smarter than everyone else therefore they are justified doing anything they do. On the other hand, anyone with a billion dollars got it by making a whole lot of other people poorer. And they ate neither actually geniuses nor benevolent in any other way.
The Phillip Morris CEO makes money by hooking people onto something that isn’t good for them. Tech CEOs are very seldom any different. Anyone who says otherwise usually has a financial interest in making you believe them.
In the song the Sk8r boy is the hero who triumphs in the end so i think it makes sense.

There hasn’t been a “peoples car” EV like the original beetle or even the Kia Soul.
If they could get a decent compact ev for around 25k they could sell as many as they can make i think.

It was super nice and really futuristic and cool. It was just way too expensive for me at the time. And probably still is honestly.

I don’t knock them for trying to make money from ads but I don’t need them selling my email address on the side too.
USB ssds seem to have a lot of weird issues being used for a nas drive. Sometimes its a power management thing on the SSD itself, sometimes its something odd with the USB controller on the host. Occasionally the power supply of the sff pc doesnt have enough amps for all of the peripherals. Using an intermediary like a usb hub makes all of these issues worse since you add another device with its own potential conflicts.
Not to say its not possible to do, but USB drives and NAS’s rarely play nice together.
