Sometimes, depending on the compliment, I might tell a story about the thing I’m being complimented on. You’re a good dancer. Oh thanks! I started practicing in my 20s but I didn’t learn to let go and really enjoy it until my 40s. Well it shows! Thanks!

A word of advice. Either compliment them back or better simply say Thank you. Thank you is the best responce to a compliment.
