Youtube suddenly recommended me some music I listen to some 14 years ago. Unlocked some memories that didn’t need unlocking

So many artists growing up I was told it was shameful to listen to, but now fuck all of that. Gonna go listen to some avril myself!

Well it used to be slipknot/KoRn/Limp Bizkit etc etc, but now nu metal is cool with all the zoomers, so I’m no longer embarrassed of being a nu metal kid. It’s been pretty cool to reconnect with that stuff without fear! Tbh there are a lot of KoRn tracks that slap, and you can hear their influence in a lot of the underground metal music I listen to. The band chat pile that’s pretty popular right now cites KoRn as an influence. Limp Bizkit is still preeeeeetty fuckin bad though. I fuck with some tracks off of 3 Dollar Bill Y’all$, but so much of it is just corny as hell. System of a Down was always considered dope so they don’t count

NuMetal may be cool among my generation, but Limp Bizkit has never been cool. They’re impressive in how uncool they manage to make everything look

Hahaha damn you roasted them so hard. True I guess I don’t see too many people repping them, I just know they played Madison Square Garden with Scowl, though, so I assumed it’s what you whippersnappers are into

KoRn was my favorite band as a teen!

still enjoy their music even though I don’t seek out nu-metal as much as I used to

Hahaha Ive had Blind stuck in my head for like 3 days. I stopped listening to them when I was still in highschool but have dabbled in the past year or two and it’s such a good nostalgia hit

    • I just saw Korn live for the first time last year and it was a great show. They played a lot of their old stuff and really made me appreciate some of the early albums again. Don’t care for their new music much, but then again and don’t like most new music. I prefer stuff I already know. Must be an age thing.

Loved this stuff back in the day as well. I still do. I got to see Slipknot live at a festival a few years back and they put on one of the more impressive shows I’ve seen.

Nice, good to know they’ve still got it. I got to see them once waaaay back, like 2004 or something for the Subliminal Verses tour I believe.

Was at a show the other night where Drop Out Kings was opening, and I did agree with my friend that there was some definite Limp Bizkit energy involved there (on top of some Beastie Boys and Rage for sure). They were a ton of fun, though.

Outside of Limp Bizkit, it isn’t all that bad.

Even with Limp Bizkit, you just have to accept that they are angry brats.

A7X imo was great up through Nightmare. I’ve The Rev died, the sound changed too much and I really dislike their new stuff. I get it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m not sure what makes it “embarrassing”.

I used to absolutely love Little Piece of Heaven in middle school, that song makes me cringe so fucking bad now. I wouldn’t say everything they made was embarrassing (Shepard of Fire will always kick ass) but goddamn they have a few songs that just make you cringe.

I love A Little Piece of Heaven. Lyrics aside, I really enjoy the beat and sound scape of the song. In some songs the lyrics are the focal point, like So Far Away, but usually, I just think of lyrics as another instrument. If it sounds good and they aren’t saying some bigoted shit or something like that, I don’t really care too much.

I’ve been getting into the band Dayseeker recently and I love their sound, but lyrically, it’s a lot a sad boi, break-up drama. To me that’s a little worse than a song about jilted lovers stabbing each other, “50 fucking times”, necrophilia, and undead marriage. Neither embarrass me though. If others around me find it cringy, which is reasonable, it doesn’t make the song any less of a banger.

I won’t criticize a band for changing their sound. It’s their music, their creativity, and their choice. That doesn’t mean I have to like it though. A7X and All That Remains both took a similar trajectory where they got less hard over the years. A7X took it to the extreme with their last two albums. Waking the Fallen, City of Evil, Self Titled, and Nightmare, I could listen to start to finish and enjoy every minute. Hail to the King felt uninspired, and the Stage and Life is But a Dream are to abstract for my tastes. In the case with ATR, The Fall of Ideals is imo their best work.

I remember bringing it into school for like a show and tell or something.

I loved aqua. Barbie girl is obviously relevant with the movie out, so it’s reminded me. However doctor Jones was also great for me at the time. I then went online and downloaded all their songs. It pretty much introduced me to mp3s. As an adult I still like it for the nostalgia and some of the lyrics are quite funny. Life in plastic, it’s fantastic or You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere.

However, O would not be breaking out the aqua for a party or dinner with friends.

I have a giant playlist of songs that are cheesy and fun but not intolerable to listen to for me, to play when my kids are playing. It’s got vheesey stuff like S club 7, which is probably more embarrassing than aqua, but don’t stop movin is amazing. It also has upside down by the a*teens. I pick songs that have words or concepts that help learn music appreciation or language skills.

Things like ROYGBIV by public service broadcasting teaches colours sits beside Gwen Stefani Hollaback girl teaching spelling.

    And b*witched for the denim.

Definitely Smash Mouth (All Star and that one that goes "and then I saw here face, now I’m a believer)

Also that “Oops I farted again” song. Real cringe.

God you guys have way less cringey pics than mine. Mine for sure has to be Blood On The Dancefloor. Loved them in early middle school, but the other day I looked up a song and it’s completely unlistenable. Also, this well known internet clip came from a member of the group grooming a 12 year old and sending their rabid fan base after said 12 year old after she talks about it. Also released a FUCKING DISS TRACK AGAINST HER in response to the grooming allegations.
