Besides it’s ML, not really AI, this answer was actually generated by AI. Even though the google assistant and search are simple algorithms, that particular search result is from a prompt of ChatGPT where it agreed to the explicit statement “There are no African countries starting with K.”

It’s like a inattentive student getting called out by the teacher trying to scramble together some kind of reply while having not heard the question properly.

Google probably should’ve tested this more before they released it

This mostly wasn’t actually Google, the website it refrences was written by ChatGPT, Google’s crawler just found it and shows it in the summary.

Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passes. Together we can stop this! Please spread the word. Thank you for your attention.

Don’t be silly! Everyone knows that Kazakhstan is the only country in Africa that starts with a K and that no Asian ones do!

Yup, that’s why I don’t use bing chat nor Google assistant to find info lol

It’s was also on Google’s “promoted” results via desktop and mobile browser for a few weeks.

If you weren’t paying attention, it was easy to miss the source was some other LLM (emergent mind or something).

Edit: just checked, it’s still there if you search for, “african countries that start with k”.

More and more articles will be written by language models and that really sucks 😔

ChatGPT literally makes exactly that mistake (with the initial letters)

The problem is they have no idea about the internal structure of the tokens they use, except what’s present in the data set. The model sees “Kenya” as 8473 299 = Ken ya or something, and how is it supposed to know token 8473, often used for the name of Barbie’s boyfriend, starts with K?

Also they love to make up Fun Facts.
