GOG has announced the launch of a new feature called Dreamlist, aimed at reviving classic games that have been difficult to bring back. This tool allows users to vote for retro titles they would like to see re-released and share personal stories and memories tied to these games.

This initiative builds on GOG’s ongoing commitment to game preservation, such as its Preservation Program, which ensures compatibility of older games with modern systems. Recent successes include the re-release of Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2.

Each game on Dreamlist has a dedicated page where fans can cast votes and contribute narratives. The data collected will be used by GOG in discussions with intellectual property holders, aiming to bring back games that might otherwise remain inaccessible due to licensing or technical challenges.

How can you participate in the Dreamlist?

  • Voting for your favorite retro games.
  • Sharing personal stories and memories tied to these titles on their dedicated pages.

Which classic game from your childhood do you think should be prioritized for re-release through the Dreamlist?

I see No One Lives Forever in there. I would love love love to see those games listed and maybe even another sequel, but my understanding is the IP ownership is caught in limbo and very unlikely to ever escape.

GOG galaxy for Linux just for shits and giggles might as well have it at the top of all their lists.

Jokes aside they’re missing a few of my childhood favourites not many people care about like Quarantine, Big Red Racing. Seeing freelancer on there is great hope it makes it through. Same with None Lives Forever & B&W impossible to find them outside of personal physicals and 7 seas.

EDIT found the whole list update games mentioned with the pages

but they already had a community wishlist…?

Edit: This seems to replace it. don’t know about that… this seems more curated than the old one which means less niche stuff will come up.

Interestingly they seem to have migrated the old votes to this. First I thought the writer had sneakily linked to the Dreamlist so that everybody would automatically vote for NOLF.

You’re playing a dangerous game, GOG. I have a LOT of favorite retro games. Asking me to list them is like asking for a mountain of data to have to pour through. Also I love you.

I hope this will finally make it possible to get discworld 1+2 available for purchase online.

Maybe even discworld noir. Here’s to hoping.

I’ve never played and that’s why i want it on GoG. Even if it’s bad, I just want it to be available for everyone to have a chance to experience it themselves.

That’s fair. It’s not actually awful, I just didn’t enjoy its mechanics (and it was wildly unstable too).

It’s a cool feature to make a collective wishlist. I wonder how helpful it is to get deals for those games in place. Maybe the more prominent placement and the visible number of upvotes can help deals get made? They already had a much less prominent wishlist that resulted in similar results.

Also, Dino Crisis is now live, after the original RE trilogy re-release. That’s hilarious.
