According to Pramila Patten, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Special Envoy for Sexual Violence in Conflicts, she has been unable to sleep for a week since viewing the 47-minute video compiled by the IDF of the atrocities committed on October 7. The scenes continue to haunt her. “Only after I saw the video did I understand things that I didn’t understand before in terms of the magnitude of the disaster that happened.”

“Patten’s visit was especially important to us so that there would be international recognition of the suffering and the horrendous sexual crimes committed against Israeli women and girls on October 7 by the monsters of Hamas,” Erdan said. “It is equally important for the world to understand who we are fighting against. The disregard and indifference demonstrated by the UN and its women’s organization is a disgrace that cannot be allowed to continue.”

Paten will depart on Monday, at the conclusion of an intense 8-day visit. Throughout her stay, she gathered evidence of the incidents of sexual and gender-based violence perpetrated by the terrorists.

So sick of hearing how bad October 7th was. We fucking get it by now. It changes nothing. Israel has proven itself to be far worse. If Israel believes escalation is the answer I’ll be more than satisfied to see them take that seriously and allow Gaza to bomb Israel for the next four months, systematic rape torture and execute the Israeli men women and children. After all this is their idea of justice so let them experience justice.

Edit: You guys really need to work on reading comprehension.

So sick of hearing how bad October 7th was.

You have to thank the 10/7 truthers for that. For those tinfoil hat folks “nothing happened on October 7th”, “there was no rape”, “Hamas are heroes”, and we have many, many of these 10/7 deniers on Lemmy that are amplifying the disgusting “believe all women, except Israelis”. It is important to remind that the rapes happened, that Hamas is not a “resistance movement” but merely a bunch of rapists and terrorists, and most importantly that rape is not resistance.

You guys really need to work on reading comprehension. I never advocated for anything. All I said is that is if Israel believes their response to October 7th is fair, then it’s only fair that the same is done to them in return. That is the world they want to live in. I personally would never retaliate but my comment was not about how I would handle the situation so please don’t assume you know how I wish things to play out.

You were on point until the Mondoweiss link at the end. They’re a low credibility site and are pretty much banned from here.

To be clear, you aren’t wrong, you can find a better supporting link. Replace that and we’re good.

Nope, other than the mondoweiss link, there’s nothing actionable.

If they had submitted it as a post, it would be removed under rule 3, but rule 3 is not an instant ban offense.

What you’re showing with this comment of yours is that you only care about people suffering in Gaza, but not Israel, to the point that you wish suffering upon innocents who just happen to be born on the wrong side of the border. How is that okay?

People are saying Israel is justified in escalating the conflict after October 7th. They’re saying escalation in response to attacks is justified.

The poster you’re replying to is saying that, since people are making the argument that “escalations are justified”, they should be consistent and fair with their stance.

To be consistent and fair with the stance that “escalations are justified”, Palestine/Hamas escalating the conflict would also be justified.

So if Hamas started bombing Israel, that would be justified under that se argument that “escalations are justified”.

The problem is that (as the other commenter is alluding to), nobody is making the argument that “escalations in response to an attack is justified”. They’re really saying “only Israel is allowed to escalate the conflict”.

Which is a stupid argument when revealed for what it really means. It’s just dressed up in a way that sounds nice. “Escalations are only fair after a brutal attack” is just another kind of “All lives matter”*. Sounds nice, but the underlying motive is bad or unsound.

            • “All lives matter” referring to the response to the BLM slogan/movement
