I don’t really know which journals are good/bad beyond the big names ones, nature, plos, elsevier, etc.

You won’t be banned for posting journal links. The only time that would happen was if it happened continuously and had a pattern and multiple reports. I don’t think there has ever been a permanent ban here.

Id recommend looking up your topic in a big name journal just to play it safe. Better science, less misinformation.

good idea. I’ll add these to an unacceptable source list in the sidebar. Most of the reports have come from posts like that so I think a majority of people would agree with limiting posts from them.

I completely agree.

I liked askhistorians, as I felt like the moderation added to the quality a lot, but /r/science never seemed to achieve that level of quality. Though when they did start with the heavy moderation/clear rules with tags (I think flair was a later addition) it was a marked improvement off what it was before.

I’m open to suggestions, and I’ll just leave the draft rules up for awhile to get feedback.

House and Senate matter far more than the presidency, without them the president has very little influence on policy with exception of veto power.

With 2/3 control, the president wouldn’t even have veto power and would be entirely powerless.

Vote for your congressional representation! This is the one day that the little guys can determine the policy direction of the country.

I probably wouldn’t trust airplane mode, but I do believe power off is safe. There is no transmit capability in off correct?

But yeah, leaving phone at home is best knowing tracking sites like these exist.

People are way to attached to their phones. The world will not collapse in that hour, it is a survivable event, or so I hear from reputable sources.

One can appreciate the sentiment of the quote to value every minute while you have it, but under a more optimistic lens, the quote is not always true. I was 10x unhealthier 20 years ago than today, and I would give anything to never be there again. We all walk a different path.

Yeah it was posted to /c/politics and actually pinned for a few days. Had a lot of traffic from that while it was up but no regular posters. The problem was though there was a lot of pro Russia trolls and aggressive commenters. If it’s going to grow it needs to be reeeeeal slow, so I can’t really post about it much.

I’ve kept at several, no one submits posts even after several weeks of submitting starter posts. It’s just very difficult. People just seem to like the status quo because it’s easier. I had to give up on !cranetrainexcavators@lemmy.world because almost no one was posting but me for an entire month, well that and plus I just ran out of things to post.

Trying !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world now, I’ll probably keep at that since public policy is a huge personal interest. It’s had some activity but it’s like trying to run up an escalator backwards with a 100lb pack blindfolded and drugged. lol. /c/politics even added it on the sidebar and there is almost no posts except mine. Posted links in several other communities including /c/newcommunities .

It’s just hard, not sure why my above comment was downvote so much. It’s hard, not impossible, but hard. I feel like it would benefit Lemmy if the devs were to modify the algorithm to promote rising new communities over existing ones to even the playing field. They tried with scaled sort, but I don’t think people use it much.

It is near impossible to start a new community. The Lemmy code primarily favors existing large communities, and it needs to change to heavily promote new communities over existing.
