The stance puts Kennedy — who’s mounting long shot bid to unseat President Joe Biden as the Democratic standard bearer in 2024 — out of step with most of his party.

RFKJ is not a Democrat. His funding is all from MAGA billionaire Trumpers. His media presence is all on far-right sources. His message is conspiratorial Q-anon nonsense. Now he is lockstep with Republican anti-abortion policy. His whole purpose is to undermine any legitimate Democratic party candidacy.

A “3 month ban” is moderate compared to what the Republican, and his own, views on abortion are. For his crowd this is basically saying “I’m okay with murder before 3 months,” which exposes the political stunt this is.

This is basically the Scandinavian model though, over time abortions become more risky and serious a procedure, first trimester is the common “no questions asked” window for countries who have legal abortions. RFK Jr doesn’t actually agree with this, he’s been committed to making abortion illegal in any window since he started his news org.

Yeah we’re in a crisis. We need an actual leader though. We can’t just stick to yet another geriatric old man, Biden might win again but he’ll be breaking the promise of only going for 4 years and will be going against 70% of the parties wishes for him to not run again.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Perception of the economy more or less decides elections, and that burned Trump heavily with the COVID chaos like supply chain shortages.

Biden isn’t looking too much better, especially with record inflation and people struggling to afford living costs.

Biden vs Trump rematch I think is dangerously close to tipping towards Trump.

Also, how is a Republican running as a Democrat? Is it just me thinking there’s a glaring flaw in the US’s political mechanics? Y’know, just the one. Nothing else wrong there. …Other than seemingly literally everything, with exactly zero hope of any meaningful change no matter what goes wrong nor how wrong it goes. sigh

        That’s an interesting idea.

I feel like we need to start putting teenagers in a separate category for a lot of reasons - that’s the age where people start to search for meaning and often look outside their parents for their identity

Religion can be that for a lot of people - getting away from religion is that for others. Religion isn’t just God - it’s community, it’s history, it’s culture

I think teens should have rights like religious freedom - it’s crazy to give a child no autonomy until they’re 18, then make them responsible for their life after they’ve often spent their most formative years having every decision made for them

(Ironically, some religions incorporate a coming of age ceremony around 13)

Correct, but that isn’t a hard line where age matters if it is held at 18 instead. I think the biggest issue is Roman Catholics that force 12 year olds to pledge to be Catholic for life or be excommunicated from the church forever. That is an adult choice and no child should be forced to make.

The people that can actually make him look like an idiot refuse to interview or debate him (don’t want to “platform” him, among other concerns), so he looks like a genius to people that don’t know better.

People also seem to be concerned that he can bullshit his way through a debate by overwhelming people with fake facts. This is completely false, I’ve seen clips where he gets light pushback from relatively neutral speakers and he immediately folds or says something stupid.

People need to stop trying to sweep him under the rug, it only makes him look more authoritative and convincing to dumb people.

I’m not sure it’s brainwashing at this point so much as the fact that they know they don’t have any policies to talk about other than abortion, border control, gun freedoms, and lowering taxes for the rich. They have to flip flop between the three “acceptable” policies to keep their base entertained. They aren’t acting in good faith at all. Hopefully Trump will destroy the GOP by not getting the nomination, and causing a massive blue wave by splitting the party.

Gonna sound a bit conspiracy-laden but bear with me. His rhetoric is entirely republican from top to bottom and his demographics are nearly identical to trump’s. He may be attempting to poach citizen citrus’s audience without earning his ire. Desantis has run afoul of trump by running against him and has been disparaged heavily by trump as a result, but running as a democrat defuses RFKjr in trump’s eyes. The worst Kennedy released a book full of crazy and made a fair sum of money off of it, and he may just want to continue his grift on a bigger crowd. Regardless, his choice to run as a democrat is bad for Biden.
