You literally just slapped “pro-fascist” on the first one with 0 actual evidence

#2 is a grey point that of course can be argued any which way. (Classic)

You’d think if this was a strong point you’d have some better examples :)

Pro-fascist: eliminated FCC regulation for airwaves to work for the public good and allowed fascist talk shows to buy and control all the stations they could afford…which was all of them.

          The mental gymnastics lmfao.

Taking away the ability of the government to control a public option = fascism because people made money off it.

The word you’re looking for is capitalist pig and I agree with you.

Except the stated point was “there needs to be more ‘conservative voices’, so we will allow corporations to buy all the airwaves they can stand.” As they did so they kicked off non-fascist shows or moved them to dead time slots. The reason that Air America doesnt exist is because they were blocked from broadcast access.

              What shows?

Who wanted more conservative voices? Why is that fascist?

Why is (yet again) capitalism being equated directly to fascism.

I just think you like saying that word tbh. May I ask what age demographic you’re in by chance?

Late Gen X I saw exactly what hapoened to the mediasphere through legislative action firsthand. I get that most of you are all under 30 and have no idea what the world was like before TikTok but there was a time that rednecks in pickup trucks in rural areas were NOT being told by their radio no stop that Big City Liberals were coming to kill Jesus, eat their babies, destroy America, burn the Constitution, and enslave all white people on black-owned FEMA farms. It took PASSING A LAW to get that ability.

Air America was not allowed access to the airwaves after they were bought up. That’s just fact.

Which has nothing to do with the Telecommunications act and everything to do with how radio stations are handled when they go bankrupt.

It has everything to do with the TCA. Air America was a SYNDICATED SHOW.

                    SYNDICATED.

That show was simply denied air time in favor of alt right and christofascist shows.

Conservative talk radio predates Clinton by over 2 decades, and is what led to the rise in Trumpism.

But it was softened by the Fairness Doctrine. You are not addressing the issue here, and have responded without investigation.

Fairness Doctrine ended in 1985 under Reagan, a decade prior to Clinton.

It also didn’t totally prevent the talk-radio programs at the heart of (especially rural) radicalization.

While the original purpose of the doctrine was to ensure that viewers were exposed to a diversity of viewpoints, it was used by both the Kennedy and later the Johnson administration to combat political opponents operating on talk radio. In 1969 the United States Supreme Court, in Red Lion Broadcasting Co. v. FCC, upheld the FCC’s general right to enforce the fairness doctrine where channels were limited. However, the court did not rule that the FCC was obliged to do so.[7] The courts reasoned that the scarcity of the broadcast spectrum, which limited the opportunity for access to the airwaves, created a need for the doctrine.

The fairness doctrine is not the same as the equal-time rule, which is still in place. The fairness doctrine deals with discussion of controversial issues, while the equal-time rule deals only with political candidates.

It should definitely make a comeback though, and Dems should push for it while calling for unity, using Republican language currently employed to deflect from their own partisanship.

Yes, Fairness Doctrine under Reagan. Still, it’s elimination was- and still is- supported by liberals, using the false claim that it means bad udeas are treated as equal to good. Clinton signed the TCA though. Most of the people were just mad that Ckear Channel bought everything and forced us to hear the same 50 classic rock songs ad nauseum for eternity, but it also meant Salem Media Group (Salem…it’s right there) could have all the airwaves and Sinclair could have all the local TV news stations. Remember when we heard about all the tv stations reading the same company mission statements nationwide and we all thought that was litearallly 1984?..that was the result of the TCA. And look right here in this thread as liberals from all over actually attack me for pointing this out. They used actual government power to stomp out free speech and somehow I’m the bad guy.

So you have no clue what fascism is on any kind of level then as neither example makes any sense
