    US companies are all about profit. If they are ever pressured to cut Europe off, they will just buy themselves a new president and Congress. Don’t ever think that the politicians are the ones in charge.

      I agree and sincerely hope so.

      But pessimistic me also can see them decide the EU is too much of a pain, which it indeed is, and that they could make as much if not more money with their new ‘best allies/customers/friends’ (which happen to also have a lot of money, like the EU, if not more) in those somewhat less democratic countries with a lot less rules… And who would care about democracy as it’s obviously its way out, in the USA as every where else.

        The EU should definitely host their own computing infrastructure and Internet backbone. If an irrational fear of US companies suddenly becoming patriotic is what gets the gears in motion, then so be it.

      Yes and No - It does work like that, and it also doesn’t really work like that.

      As with all things in life, the actual answer is, “It depends.”

      Just make a copy of the Internet and host it local.
