I mean, here (in Germany) we have ads for meds too, but only for freely available stuff that you can reasonably self-medicate. Like ibuprofen and stuff

*watching sport stream from American tv channel *

Hmm, this psoriasis drug seems quite effective! Maybe I should ask my doctor about it!

Warnings at the end of the ad: “do not take if you have, have had, or ever will have the sniffles, as the deaths of yourself and everyone you’ve ever loved will result”

    Nah, I think I’ll pass…

      Real one:

“If you have mild to moderate rheumatoid arthritis, VIOXX may be able to treat your pain. Ask your doctor about VIOXX, he has all the facts about whether it’s right for you.”

“Okay so yes, 140,000 people got severe heart disease and a bunch of them died of heart attacks, but in our defense, the only reason we deliberately mislead your doctor about the safety of VIOXX was so we could make a shitload of money”.

TV: “Ask your doctor about DRUG today!”

Me: “Shouldn’t my doctor be the one telling me about DRUG? Cuz, like… He actually thinks I need it?”

Of course even that is not necessarily the best… If the doctor gets a kickback for pushing a certain drug, they’re no better.
